KCHERMAN 0
I just replaced the ring and pinion in my 5234de and am wondering if I can use a different oil than the drive line fluid which is very expensive, I'm sure that the oil that was in it was not that type and the reason for the failure of the gears was that the last guy to have it apart failed to install the spacer behind the pinion gear which allowed the gear to slide away from the ring gear resulting in the tractor being driven by a quarter of the teeth. Thanks
J-Mech 1,489
You can, but I wouldn't suggest it. Suck it up. It only holds a few quarts. Think about the guys filling tractor transmissions that are in the 30 gallon range using the same fluid. Check the price of hy-tran oil at a Case IH dealer and compare. Usually cheaper than the fluid from CCC and it is the same thing.

You can get a bucket of hy-tran from IH for ~$100. Either way, it is what it is.
snoshoe 535
Could be wrong. I left in 05 and memory is playing tricks on me. I thought 20w50 was the alternate oil for these.
