I have a leaking steering cylinder on my front axle. Wow . The pin at the base of the cylinder isnt budging. I have a bottle jack pushing up on the pin with alot of weight, put some heat on the housing and i'm using an air hammer , and that pin is just laughing at me. What do you guys do ? I dont really want to torch it out, but it may come to that. Thanks

Pends how good of an air hammer you have. Usually just have to heat and soak and keep working at it. To get the pin up far enough you'll have to jack up the other side to lower the opposite side of the axle.

Try holding the cylinder end down with a jack, porta power, etc. on the opposite side from the pin, almost like a backer.  If you’re pushing the pin up, keep down pressure on the cylinder.

       The key to getting an air hammer to work good is to use a good one, and try to keep the piece from vibrating.

Well the pin wouldn’t budge, so I was able to cut it between the housing bosses and the cylinder with a quick cut blade on a grinder and remove the cylinder with no cosmetic damage. But those stubs are a bugger. That pin is some kind of alloy, you can’t cut it with oxy acetylene, and the plasma cutter just wants to melt it. I was able to drill them and finally, with heat and hammer, they are out. Really don’t feel like tackling the other side now.

I did my Magnum 215 last fall.  It is a pain, I heated the boss on the axle red then used a 4X rivet gun (about 4 times a muffler gun). On mine the bushings were loose on those pins. Cleaned the rust off and they slid nice. Never seize the crap out of them when you go back.
