vtfireman85 5,701
Its not really romantic, but I figured I would take the opportunity to grab credit for something i was going to do anyway ?. I had bought a WTKirkman reproduction hurricane lantern about 5-10 years ago and used it in the woodshed at my grandparents. It has been dry from oil for long enough you couldn’t even smell it. I wanted to have some bedside lights for reading or whatever that weren't lamps cluttering up the side tables. I plan to get a wrought iron style hanger and mount it on the wall. Also i will get some “antique” led bulbs to go in them. I tried to buy another to match from the shop i got it from but they no longer carry the brand.i was able to order one directly from Kirkman . When it arrives ill do the same thing for the other side of the bed. i added a candelabra base socket and a rotary switch on the light, but they plug into switched outlets anyway. I personally like the braided cord, i have been ordering them from Amazon, i think it gives a nice look. I didn’t like the galvanized look for the bedroom so i took it downstairs and dusted it up with a bronze paint i use a lot for light fixtures i make.

oleman 821
Do they still make the Coleman pump-up white gas lanterns. Giant white light from a flame "mantle". Shape much like your retro style electric. With the efficiency of LED lights today you could make it rechargeable and totally portable just like the original kerosene version.
Doug in NY 125
It is not low expectations, if you never did these things early on. Therefore unreal expectations are not on the table.
