Long Farms

Recommended Posts

Been wanting a 500 or 501 disc. Looked at a few 500s and only tracked down 1 501. Bought a decent 1 owner 500 14'  was closest and best shape. 16' needed alot of work, farther away and thought id have too many issues getting through gates. Also saw a 770.....woof! Too much disc for me but what a disc.

Lots of old trucks down here but most are wore out by now. My 91 D250 Cummins has well over 500,000. She's looser than a French whore but still runs and drives good.

Like the disks. Not many offset disks round here.

Thx-Ace

Always hated them floppy clevis hitches IH used on discs so much fun trying to get hitched if your by yourself

I used to have a 14’ IH 500 disc up in MI. Mine had a piece of thin flat spring metal under the clevis hitch which kept the clevis sticking up level when the disc was unhooked. I don’t know if that was factory or a home made improvement from the previous owner but it sure was appreciated.

Yea mine did too but after a afew yrs that got weak or broke off then you were back to using the right height stick again to hold it in place and I forgot to mention the end wheel grain drills had about the same floppy style hitches to remember welding them on solid

The only place a swinging drawbar came in handy.   You back up just beside the hitch, and swing the two in line and put the pin in.   Then pull ahead and put the drawbar pin back in.     The tractors with the sliding drawbar you could do the same thing with the slide.....but if you had a solid drawbar w/ bolted in blocks.....you were stuck.

All because grease is soooo expensive and hard to put in......I did put 2 new 2 wire hyd hoses on it today. I was suprised the lift axle wasnt wore bad. The 2 inner axle pivot brackets and straps are pretty wore. Outter 2 still look decent. Need to pull them off, clean out grease tracks and install new zerts.

Nice disk. Never see any 500's around here. Lots of 770 offsets though. The one in the picture shouldn't pull to hard, the blades are wore down to nothing. Always like the 770's, they were good disks.

We had a 470 disk and now a Krause with the floppy clevis hitch design. 470 had tab with hole in it welded under each side of clevis.  Previous owner rigged it. Put pin through to hold up clevis.  Krause has tab welded on backside of clevis and correct size piece of wood or pin wedged in holds up.
