Not red, but my red stuff couldn’t work without it.

if Bitty brushed the hair on a Clydesdale, I just combed up a pony.  1968 that we have owned for 30 years.  We run three of them on hay rakes all summer.  This started as a quick, ehh let’s see what it would look like with 756 fenders on it that a neighbor was going to throw away (eek!), too let’s fix a fuel shutoff leak, too ehh,....while the hoods are off, let’s replace the fuel tank, and radiator,  fuel line, spindle bushings, seat, steering wheel etc.

Thanks guys. I haven’t touched a paint gun in 20 years, and I used a $25 siphon gun back then. I bought a modern hvlp last month and this was a “test” to see if I could learn how to use it.  I’m real happy with how it came out. I have a two Hytran barrels  that have blue and white stripes on them now though. IronGuard paint with hardener.  I did the Identical ford that’s in the front of the rake line-up there, with ford blue from the dealer 25 years ago and it has held up well but I’m going to sand it off and do a better job next time. Need to do the 6600 that’s in the middle first.

The IH fenders were on a 756 that my Grandfather bought new.  He sold it to a great uncle, who put a ice box cab on it, and gave the fenders (30-40 years ago)  to a friend, who put them -on his ford 5000- (after he painted them ford white  via a paint brush, with course bristles) .  Then 15-20 years ago the guy found a set of correct fenders for his ford and set these in his barn.  Fast forward to last year and said paint brush guy now lives only a few miles from me and he asks me to put a clutch  in his ford, since he knows I’m “into” them.  While I was doing that he randomly mentioned that he had this old red set of fenders that he once had on the tractor.  He said that my great uncle had given them to him, and he would give them to me if I could use them. They are darn nice. Quick pressure wash would wipe that white paint right off them.  I charged him $100 to replace the clutch/p.plate/bearings and input shaft on his ford.   He was happy.

I thought that the fenders looked too big on the ford. My father liked the looks of them, until he tried climbing on/off of the tractor a few times. They were restrictive. We lowered and reversed the brackets to attempt to get them lower and wider, and we were allllllmost ready to redrill the mounting holes to set them rearward an inch..... then I pulled the plug on that idea.  Original ford fenders were too nice to not keep on there. Be different, if I didn’t have fenders and needed something on there.

I like the Ford fenders on the Ford.

I love the X000 series Fords of that body style.  I would almost prefer them to an IH of the same physical size.  While my dad's family was IH, my mom's dad was Ford.  Last tractor he owned, and the only one I remember him having, was a Ford 3000 gas.  I fondly remember that tractor.  I'd own one in a heartbeat.  Nice work!!

 WHAT MODEL FORD IS THAT?

It’s a ‘68 5000.  Original 5000 decal visible in my first pic, at the rear end of the hoods.  Later models had a much larger decal that ran down the side of the hood where this one  has a white stripe and vents.  The later style hood, same as my 6600 there, will be easier to paint as It’s all just blue, then the decal has the white stripe built into it.

The one is 68hp and will pull a gyro rake, or tandem NH 258 rakes, or a four spool tedder alllll day on about 12g of fuel.   I thought I was going to pull 6 spool  tedders with the Fords, but they didn’t like it.   Full size tractors pull them better....but burn 50% more fuel doing  it. CE23170A-F392-423E-BB0A-8AAA027AF286.thumb.jpeg.f8d59ee86d3109cdbe8f46370bc723ee.jpeg0FF95303-8052-4E76-861F-24328A2F8188.thumb.jpeg.9a47745b897dedf9be64d9785afde8e6.jpeg1F0DB299-14A9-490F-BCB9-5F7F83762651.thumb.jpeg.53e154981e3732d7f1628c3dfc0fc4a8.jpeg

well thats a purdy ford and yes those 0000 series were much better tractors than the Ns and the selecto speeds LOL

HEY! While I won’t argue that it’s a purrdy tractor, ya gotta have a little bit of a soft spot for the N’s... sure they weren’t nearly as capable but I bet a lot of us lost our steering wheel cherry on one!
