Floor dry

We used to use a rather crunchy floor dry that absorbed a lot of oil and cleaned the floor pretty well and left the floor dry. Sometimes you could put in a bucket to use first on a major spill I had sort of forgotten about it until this morning when again the old ford puked on the floor. The last few times we stocked up all we could get is about half fluffy and takes 1/4 bag to soak up a gallon of oil and leaves the floor wet. Is it just my local guys or the did the good stuff go away? What does the best for you?

I was buying regular floor dry(Re-sorb I believe was the brand).............When this covid crap started we just got cheap cat litter at the store instead of another stop with a "Head Count" before entering, works just as good here anyhow, so I have kept using it.

We use dirt that accumulates on the floor and saw dust from the wood shop.  Haven’t bought floor dry in years.

I never use floor dry in my shop hate cleaning the mess up later and dealing with it I just wipe up the puddles of oil antifreeze whatever and use spray the spot with brakeleen and use an old mop to absorb the rest hardly shows a spot was there in afew hours

Most big company's with clean shops have outlawed it, get a mop. Much better and not the looks of a beach

I use nothing but diatomaceous earth (DE) floor dry.  It's is white, light and fluffy.  Nothing absorbs better.  The clay based stuff leaves oil behind and takes forever to soak up oil.  DE you can dump on a spill, grind it with your foot and sweep it up.  Unless it is totally soaked, I sweep up used and put it in a bucket to reuse until it is saturated.

DE is mined West of Bakersfield, CA in the hills.  Cat litter & DE are the same, just different bags with a little alfalfa thrown in for the cats.

Kitty litter is typically cheap clay.  Maybe some people buy more expensive kitty litter, but in my area it's brown/gray clay just like cheap floor dry.  I've never even seen DE kitty litter.  Not saying it doesn't exist.

I've never bought floor dry. I usually use sawdust and brake clean to finish. Good clean ashes from a woodstove works really good as well.

What name brands is the DE stuff sold under?  I would like to try some.

I didn’t build my shop but the concrete must be treated with something nothing soaks in makes it easy to clean .

Ours is sealed and was power troweled before sealing.....................Slicker than liquid $hit on a toilet bowl but man does it clean up nice.  Cat litter on a big oil spot, sweep it up after it soaks it up, would never known it was there.

I order my cattle wormer from a vet supply house in Kansas, since it contains alcohol it is considered a hazardous substance and requires special handling.  Anyway they put the boxes inside a bag with some type of absorbent, in case of leaks.   Instead of pitching it ,i set it aside and have been using it for floor dry. I have no idea what it is but it really works good.

When I go to Lowe’s I look for the swelled up bags of pellets. Can usually get them for a $1 or less. I burn what pellets are good and the rest get dumped into a barrel that I use as floor dry, then burn it. I’m cheap....

What ever you do do not use cat litter that clumps. Wife got some for the cat and he didn't like it. Cool, I'll use it in the shop. Sets up like concrete. Had to use scraper to get it up

I feel that the NAPA brand floor dry works better than anything else I have come across. Not overly expensive but not the cheapest thing out there either.

Walmart brand cat litter, nothing but dry clay pellets, cheap and effective. Works really well on petro not so well on water.
