Just heard that Charley Pride has passed away. Listened to him many hours on my old 8 track tape player. Maybe he finally found that ride going to San Antone....

BTW the so called news outlets are saying he died of covid but family members say no it wasn't.

?----to Charlie.  I could listen to his music all day long.

He was from Sledge, Mississippi.  Will have to find my picture of the state historical marker that stands along Ms Hwy 3 at Sledge.

Think I will pull up Charlie and listen to a couple of his songs right now.

Damm--------just listened to several of Charlie's songs.  He didn't have any bad ones.

I have never met Charlie Pride-----but admired him from when I first heard him.

Here is a story relating Charlie Pride to my short one night music career----tonight should be a good time to tell it in honor of Charlie.  Don't know what year------but Charlie Pride was the hottest item going at the time.

One of my wife's ladies club was having their annual Christmas party at the Greenville Country Club-----and had a band called the Jimmy Church Revival.  Jimmy Church was a highly talented black guy who was the band's featured singer.  They didn't play country music-----but really kept the party alive with their music.

Now you have got to understand that ol' Delta Dirt has absolutely no singing or musical talent----but late in the night (just about closing time)-----the Christmas spirits from the bar were with me and I found myself on stage sharing the microphone with Jimmy Church.  We finished some song when I told Jimmy Church that:  "Jimmy----with my redneck ways and your black ass----Charlie Pride would have to move over".

Jimmy's reply was: "boss-----I believe you got that 'bout right"!!!!!!

The crowd was loving it.  Jimmy Church and the band were still laughing as they left the stage a little later.??

And folks------ that concludes my music career.  Glad our friend Charlie entertained us all of these years.?

Saw Charlie in 2007 in Casino on ND-SD border along hwy 29.  Thirty below zero that night.  Great, great show. Had me on the edge of my seat all night.

Next morning wife and I were having breakfast in the casino cafe, in walks Charlie Pride. Sits down about ten feet away. Two ladies at the table about dropped their jaws.  He conversed with them, had breakfast etc.  I didn't bother him as I figured he most likely enjoyed a little quiet private time.

Man, a lot of good ones are leaving us.  Sorry to hear that.

Where did you read the family statement? Other outlets are all stating covid and are taking runs at CMA for putting on the awards show, even after the people were all tested.

l saw it in a online version of the Dallas Morning News. That's how l originally found out that he had passed away. But now, even they're saying it was from "covid related complications"....which means it will be listed as a covid death regardless of the real cause.
