been done fore awhile snow is mostly gone in fields to early in my books but hoping for 1 more surprise snow storm to go for a ride so i haven't put mine away yet

be starting the 2021 crop year thread pretty quick

lol I was thinking that today too. Hopefully a month or more yet before any fields get close to dry enough to do anything.

Geese are just starting to show up in larger numbers here now. Brother in law saw a crow flying around tonight so I imagine they’re here too and I just haven’t seen one yet. Will be some snow coming yet I imagine. Probably just after the yard is starting to dry up. Least that’s usually how it goes.  It is a little early for the snow to be gone but I can remember some bare fields by my birthday before and that’s this coming weekend.  Kind of my least favorite time of the year. It’s nice outside but everything is mud and slop.  Roads are sure dusty already though.

Well a new season is officially under way. Most of the trails are still closed and no grooming has taken place much yet but I took off today as it was a perfect day to go riding and went up to the bus

Finally warming up a little bit. Was up to around -22-25°C this afternoon so I took off for a few hours again. Put on about 70 kms around home. Creek is finally frozen up hard enough that I drove down

Had a excellent day on the trails today. Put on just over 310 kms(194 miles) Trails were in really good shape for the most part. Coming back the local trails near Nipawin were getting pounded out alre

Picture from our north quarter this morning when I went up to put some new choker cables on the skidder. Yards getting pretty muddy now. Need to move some snow banks out tomorrow morning maybe with the cat so things dry up a little quicker.

First quad trip for 21 is in the books. My cousin has a cabin back in the bush west of big river and he’s been after us to come up for a visit so my brothers and I took off and unloaded at the edge of the bush. Could’ve almost had the sleds yet. Coming out the main road was getting muddy in places though. Still a fair bit of snow in the bush. One more sled trip isn’t out of the question yet but it’s getting there lol.  Had a nice visit with my cousin and his boy that I haven’t met before and the temps were almost t shirt weather.  I was overdressed but was nice and toasty all day.  Northern lights were out when I was coming home. Stopped at our gate and snapped a couple pics when I got home.

Well I think I’m done riding around here pretty much. Went for a little ride this afternoon to have a look if there was much for water gathering yet or running. Not much around yet. Doesn’t look like there will be a whole lot either.  Coming back across the fields wasn’t much fun. Had to duck and dodge bare spots and it was quite rough. Up in the bush it was nice yet and our north quarter has quite a bit of snow yet.  Went back down to where my grandfathers sawmill was set up along the creek years ago and had a look again. Topped up my mileage enough to just push me over the 2,000 km mark for the winter53BCFF7D-206C-4CAE-9011-65D787830620.thumb.jpeg.0b4b30e5da33bdb758a27f12807cb5c5.jpeg

Well winters not over yet. Ended up with another 4 inches + at the farm. Had to go in this morning to pick up dads truck and the highways weren’t great.  Already talking about sledding this weekend again lol.

I enjoy this thread every year. By this time I enjoy the fact the snow is GONE here!

Lol. It’s the years where it starts to run into the middle or the end of April that I’m ready for it to be over usually. Got most of the snow pushed out of the yard again.

Everyone’s loaded up and getting ready for tomorrow. Wish us luck so we don’t end up in dirt and gravel lol.  Talked to a couple people up north and the snow storm seemed pretty general so hopefully it’s not to bad.  Will be a few iffy spots I’m sure but hopefully we can get one last good ride in. Keep saying last ride, one of these times it will be lol.

I managed about 25 miles, one little afternoon ride in some logging areas... the Widetrak is back in the storage shed. Didn't even snap a picture while I was out.

Bad news for everyone in MN next year. I just signed us off the snow list, Snowchecked a '22 VR1 650 137.

Well it’s very likely our last trip unless we get something out of the storm coming in on Tuesday. Not expecting much in the north though. We put on 130 kms today. Some spots were really nice with the fresh snow while other spots on the hills were a little iffy.  We went from lower fishing lake up to little bear lake across to the gem lakes and then back across to lower fishing lake again. Was surprised to find a few other diehards out on the trails. We were the only ones who trailered up though and did the largest loop I think. Most guys were just sticking close to their home base.

If that’s the end im satisfied. We had a decent season here and managed to put on a good number of miles. Think I’m at 2200 kms now.  If it all melts tomorrow I won’t be disappointed now.  We had a good run lol.

Should be a nice trail sled. Hopefully you get lots of snow next year.

Didn’t get away unscathed this winter I found out, first break down of the season really. Went to inspect the sled before I unloaded it and found the front swing arm in the suspension cracked out. Got lucky that it didn’t hurt anything else. Drove it in the shop this afternoon so I could work on it tomorrow. Supposed to be kind of nasty out. Calling for 80-100 km winds here and 3-4 inches of snow again.

If that is the first break-down of the season, you're living right!

Pretty much lol. I replaced a belt part way through and a thumb warmer beginning of the season. Haven’t had to much trouble with it the last couple years. First year I had to do some things to it but nothing to major.

Got the sled all back together but don’t think I’ll be riding anymore this year.  Been pretty warm the last couple days. I had the nytro out this morning for a bit just to see how the water situation was coming along in the fields. Did a tiny bit of water skipping on my way back. Technically more slush skipping. I guess lol.

Went back out on the quad tonight to have a look at the creek and some of the other runs.  Water is starting to run now in a few places. Not as much built up as some years though. Managed to climb up on top the one big snow bank left on our one quarter where I was brush cutting last fall. Quite a bit of snow packed in there yet.  Big slough south of our house is starting to back up a little tonight. It hasn’t cut through the snow in the ditch on the other side yet.

I got my last ride in this past Wednesday. Had snow storm on Tuesday, but we didn't get much out of it. Was enough snow drifted along the lane and enough of a skiff in the yard I could finally move the sleds without getting muddy lol. Went for a spin on the field but had to go on the edges. Think I got maybe 400 miles on this winter. Very poor year. Really no snow left here now. Sleds are all put away now so I'm done with winter lol. Seen guys seeding in parts of the province already so I'm expecting snow yet lol

Always amazes me how long winter lingers up there! I planted the early stuff in the garden here on 4-3. Should have radishes nice and early this year.

I fully expect another blast of winter yet before seeding but I could be wrong. We don’t usually loose snow beginning of April and have it dry through seeding.(which is a good thing in some ways I guess)

Dt Fan Go another 2 hours north of here and it’s full on winter yet with the ice roads still open for heavy trucks lol.  On our last snowmobile trip we were talking with a friend up north about the ice and he started reminiscing about the year they went ice fishing on may long weekend. Said the co’s were siting at the shore shaking their heads watching them walk out onto the lake lol.  Told him they were probably taking bets as to who fell in first lol.

I haven't actually rode for a month now. The snow has been gone from the fields since then. There is just snowbanks and drifts along the edges left now. Usually the snow is melting pretty good by now, but this was not a normal winter. I have been out sledding the last week in April a few times and there was still 1-2 feet of snow. I always say we ain't safe for spring till may long weekend lol

I’ve been out harrowing in a snowstorm before in may long too lol.  2002 when I graduated our high school band did a trip out to Toronto to compete in a music festival the first week of may. Was nice when we left. Dad was out putting on nh3. When we got to Toronto they got a foot of snow on the ground back at home.  Was kind of glad to miss it and be where there was green grass even if it was in Toronto lol.

I also enjoy this thread.  I did get a chance to take mine out a couple times, riding right out of our new house.  No chance to go to the UP riding again this year☹.  I really do like a snowy winter!

That’s usually what happens, yard is just nicely drying up where you can walk around and not get heavier as you go lol.  Might have to turn some canola bins again sooner then later if there’s something coming. Don’t want a repeat of heated canola like last year. Partial reason why there wasn’t a new sled in the fleet this year 😢

had it happen a couple times where its dry and we got the drill up front working all afternoon and that night it blows in with snow and nothing happens for a week, just some drift in the trees left here

poorfarmer what the heck you coulda had a new sled for even less canola sold at this year prices were so good, but i see

starting to hear of drills goin in Montana so that's usually the indication of a month or so we'll be going
