I’m looking for a 429 IH motor

Danny,

How big is the International TD 20 compared to an older Caterpillar Dozer? D6 D7 Size? How big is an International TD 15B/C?

I don't know much about Dozers?

I helped clean up a John Deere 750 Dozer to get painted over a year ago but never ran it. The Guy who owned the John Deere 750 said it compared to a Cat D7.

I think they are cool and would like to push some dirt with one, that would be fun.

I like those IH Dozers.

Did the International TD 15 B/C have the same engine as a 1456/1466 Tractor?

TD20 would be D7 territory

TD15 would be D6

TD25 was D8.4

I can’t find any IH literature of a 429 in a scraper but there are numerous sources that say one existed?

The TD 15B used the DT361, same used in 1206.

Early 15B's had the DT361 and the later 15B's had the DT407. The 15C's had DT466 until late 80's then a Cummins.

When it get a rain day and back in the shop I will get the motor out of there and see if these bell housings will interchange , if so I will just RedPower with the DT 466, just will need to come up with a way to put a hyd oil cooler on it . I’m sure I can put one up front of the radiator ?

I hope that works for you if someone else has done it with your knowledge it should be easy.

We all admire your work.

But you never know some will do tons of work to make a swap work.

You have to take the 429 out anyway so nothing lost there

Show us some more photos.

The back of bell-housing ,torque converter and its connection to the fly wheel then how is hydraulic pump driven.

Is the bolt pattern on the back of the block the same on the 429 as the 466?

Curious minds want to know.

The photo of the TD20 on on Machinery Trader with a 400 series conversion that I posted was a C model so it had a DVT-573 in it from the factory.

I wonder if some IH motors carry the same pattern on the back of the block anybody know?

I have not gotten it out yet , been in my dozer 7 days a week . It’s raining here now so I might get it out in the next couple days . When it’s sitting in the shop I will get the torque converter off and see what Im dealing with and hope they will swap out .

Well guys , I had a couple hours yesterday and got the motor picked out of the TD 20 and late this afternoon my son and I took the pan off and found the trouble . The man I got it from told me it was running perfect the last day they were using it and the next morning when they started it the motor had a knock . Well I have been doing this for a few years and that story don’t match what I found inside ? Number six rod is totally spun and all I found was a part of one half of the bearing , the poor thing was run low on oil . The crank has already been turned to .030 so she is done ?

So I will pull the bell housing tomorrow and see if it would interchange with the DT 466 but it’s not looking very favorable .

Sounds like you need to find another 429.

They must have changed the pump mounting on the Cs or they did a lot of work to put the 466 in it

At 30 under there is no hope for that crank

The new motor is waiting to get installed , the weather is way ahead of schedule for spring so I’m just finishing up my Caterpillar with service work and parts repair . Nor sure if I will get it in until after spring dirt work . Not to worry I will get it going and it will be out on the jobs by fall . Here are pictures of the hard bar bearing replacement 😳 I replaced all the bearings in all the angle cylinders, tilt cylinder , both ends of the hard bar , all the fluids and filters in the entire machine .

So it looks like I have a good block still standard bearing. This block was sitting out exposed for a while. Will have to replace liners and pistons. Valves are sticking also so I may look at using the head from the other engine. Where were you getting parts if you were rebuilding the 429 Danny having a little trouble sourcing parts.

Wonder why is is so difficult for some people who dabble in junk can not be honest about the condition of their product?
