Transtar needs Power divider in

Recommended Posts

Power divider needs to be in for the truck to move. Pulled the axles and one had some where to the outside.could see something loose in the back pumpkin, not a easy fix I guess.

Not a bad fix. Raise that box up for more room and get it out. That loader will come in handy on removal and installing. Don’t see anything wrong with the axles unless the splines are worn thin and I can’t tell on the pic. Don’t worry about the splines being worn down on axle side of the one. You can see the wear marks from the differential never touch that part. No more than you will use that truck I’d put a rebuilt in and put it back together.

We are doing this same repair at work on a 1998 paystar with RA474 rears.  Spider gears or side gears just disentegrated, can’t see in enough to say for sure.  Hand full of teeth in the bottom of the housing .  Was banging really bad under load.  Got the old one pulled reman came today so hopefully tomorrow we can get it in.

Tilt the bed and lock it or crib it up. I did this one in a creek bottom pasture after we unloaded it. I used ratchet straps to get it up high enough to get it with a tractor and loader. Exchanged it for a rebuilt unit and dropped it in.

And I was thinking a rear axle seal in a little 24000# Mediator SR rear end would be beyond our capabilities.

Folks, I am inspired to replace the seal!

Thanks for the confidence build.
