89vmax
Have my problem narrowed down to clutch drag is anyone able to send me update details on this going to take lubrication valve apart as it use to work fine
Matt Kirsch
I looked for a past post on your problem and don't see one. What was your problem? Also, what is "clutch drag?" Never heard of it.
J-Mech
3 hours ago, Matt Kirsch said: Also, what is "clutch drag?" Never heard of it. When a clutch pack partially engages from a leak in a fluid circuit, like a stuck or damaged valve, blown o-ring or gasket. But I have no idea where the OP is coming from or what his problem is either. Edit: I'm going to add mechanical failure within the clutch pack to the above description. 89vmax
When I try to shift low/med/high it's hard to get into gear the tractor creeps forward the gears do not bring. Pressure gauge shows zero with clutch depressed but still creeps forward like master us dragging
J-Mech
I am not familiar whatsoever with the 88 tractors.... Can you test pressure sent to a particular clutch to see if there is residual pressure being sent on that circuit?
Nebraska1206
Just taking a guess here, but maybe check out the cable from the clutch pedal to the valve linkage, possibly the cable is stretched, or some linkage to move the valve spool is worn, therefore not allowing full travel of the spool to disengage the master clutch
89vmax
Master clutch reads 0 on guage clutch cable is new
SDman
Warped Master Clutch plates. Seems to be an all too common problem on 50 series through the years. Happened on several around here.
Gearclash
A fried clutch pack with warped plates can do that as SDman said. I had my MX150 start dragging the forward master clutch. Circuit pressure was zero when it was not engaged so it had to be a problem with the pack. Turned out not to be a roasted pack but rather I think a lost tooth of friction plate lodged in an oil hole of the clutch basket and kept the pack from fully releasing.
89vmax
There is only maybe 50hrs on new master clutch and 2 sp gone through.it was doing this previous to that work

neukm
What I'm describing would not cause the tractor to creep, obviously. But; make sure the shift linkage is free and well lubricated, the Range lever can move both the M - H and the R - L linkage at the same time if it binds up. SDman
Seems like we had one years ago that we capped the line that delivers lube oil to the master clutch/lube valve and tried it. It was noticeably different with the lube oil line capped off. Don’t remember exactly, but it seems like something was wrong in the MC/lube valve. pete23
I would say that capping off the lube like SD man said would be a good test to see if lube was part or all of the problem. Early 50 series were really tough to shift when cold and then the lube circuit was changed to reduce lube during total release of clutch. I would think a sticking or broken lube valve or spring could be your problem.
striker782
There was a change to the lube valve spool to help with this problem, especially in cold weather. There was a service bulletin issued. Unfortunately I don’t have access to those any longer
88power
i'd check the clutch cable before anything then go from there i had one do something similar and it was in the cable two years later it's still working great and be sure to follow the book on proper adjustment
Nebraska1206
Here are snippets of the service bulletin I believe Striker is referring to.
89vmax
So we removed lube valve and cleaned it up seems to be much better

2+2love
Even warm I can not get it in a range. Replaced all hydraulic filters no metal or anything in them. They have not been changed in a long time.

88seriesrestorer
Does it have a module in it or a test harness? Test harnesses do not disengage trans at clutch depressment
2+2love
Yes it has the sentry. My dad ordered a new sentry from you yesterday as well.
