rustred 347 Posted August 17, 2020 Share Posted August 17, 2020 grade 8 is 5 marks on head = 80 ft. lbs. grade 5 is 3 marks on head+ 60 ft. lbs. so pick an inbetween # probably go 70 or 75 lbs. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
louie figone 43 Posted August 17, 2020 Share Posted August 17, 2020 t4, Out of a IH service manual. Grade 8 have 6 hash marks, grade 5 have 3 hash marks. There is a grade 7 with 5 hash marks but you don't see those very often. C123 head bolt torque is 85 lbs ft according to a post on Yesterdays Tractors. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Depends what application the bolts are used on also sometimes the recommended torque is not required more important to torque headbolts in stages and sequence to get even compression on the gasket Quote Link to post Share on other sites
