A high school class mate of mine started doing taxidermy back in the 80’s .

He has won several awards and has several of his mounts on display at nearby Cabela’s  and Scheels sporting good stores. Takes two to three years to get your mount back and he basically works seven days a week doing taxidermy.

I see him often and have seen his storage unit full of mounts that people never came back to pickup. I guess the excitement wears off after some time passes .

People come from other states to get his service.

Scheels in Lincoln just opened a new store and it has a huge area on second floor with stuffed animals  indigenous  to Nebraska placed around it. It’s pretty amazing , just about every  species  of wildlife know to Nebraska on display .

I have seen more good mounts than bad

I especially love the action mounts. Some Very talented individuals out there.

I've got a local that does great work but is slower than molasses in January. He has a whitetail of mine right now, shot the day after Christmas in 2017. Delivered to him in January of 18. Last time I talked to him was March 31, said he was going to do it in April. I said, "Good, that's tomorrow!" Haven't heard a thing since, need to call and crank him up.

I’ve got this Muskie my Grandpa caught in the 1960’s over my work bench. The picture is him with it then. Two deer mounts but don’t have pics of them. Waiting to get my almost white raccoon back any time.

I’m sure you mis-typed Rusty.   If not the DNR will asking a few questions.  Lol.   Nice deer!

I have gotten two mounted. Ten years apart. 98" and 140" green gross unofficial score. First one is the nicest one I had gotten by then. It took 14 months to get it done. The second one I took to another guy . His goal is to always have them done before next year's archery season starts because he wants to be hunting as much as possible. Like he said if he takes 20 in to do he needs to do 20 in a year or else he will eventually get way behind. I took him my best buck to date on November 6th of '17 and my cousin picked it up for me on the Friday before father's day off '18 . I will never get one mounted again. I wasn't going to get the second one done but I was convinced by my brother and a few others that I had to. I hate to have to maintain them in that state. I was going to just European mount it this way you can handle it easier and could rinse it off if needed. Second reason is it takes more space to display as a shoulder mount and I have a small house. Now that I looked at them again I need to get baby wipes and wipe them down again .....

they look very good, bitty...….and all the more meritorious  given they caught an arrow...….I say this after ""having a go "  with the ubiquitous  "bow and arrow"   in the Fish Lake forest in Utah......in 1972...….I could sneak up on them///(plenty of practise  doing that at home with an iron sighted   old Marlin.....)…..but  an hours preparation/tuition from   my good Mate there......was sadly inadequate  for hunting......thus   I sprayed the odd arrow around...missed them all....but ...hey...it was fun...as always, out camping in deer country....:)
