Loadstar newbie

Recommended Posts

I have a chance to buy a 1977 Loadstar 1850, it has a DT 466 and a eating 13 spd tranny. It’s a pretty cool lookin old truck. The motor has 5000 kms on a inflame. Would this be a truck that I would be able to resell easily do you think?

Gee, I don't normally think of a Loadstar having a 13-speed.

I’ve never seen or heard of a Loadstar with a 13, and quite frankly don’t know how the heck you would fit one in. We had a Loadstar with a 466 at work 20 years ago. It had a lot of miles and was pretty wore out then. Engine is only part of the equation, what kind of shape is the rest of the truck? Loadstars are getting old enough that unless you can get it super cheap, buying it to flip for a profit might take some time.

They made a lighter duty 13 speed that was available in an 1850 loadstar.  Almost never see one.

A local man here bought a brand new 1977 Loadstar 1850 twin screw dump truck, had the DT 466 and a 5 by 4 transmission set up.

That seemed to be a fairly common set up around here

A 466 would use a RTO 913 transmission.

That new 77 Loadstar was quite a truck.  It replaced a 72 Chevy twin screw with a 427 gas engine and a 5 by 4 transmission setup.
