Got another what is it tractor??

Been on the farm for a while, will drag it out this summer and see if it is a project or junk.

Does seem to have all the parts.

Any thoughts on year, model, keeping it??

Tom is right, it does appear to be a Super AV. My dad has an AV and Super AV. They are a good puller for their size, he always liked them better than the C he used to have. They'll move along fairly decent down the road compared to a "regular" A or C.

Could you folks suggest a route of attack???

I am hoping the motor isn't seized and for the time being it will need to be evaluated in place, I can't drag it back to the city very soon and easier to fix there. It's on a summer property. I will need to drag around tools and such. What would be the route of the motor IS seized???

Can I just get a big ratchet to the front and see of it turns?? Pull off the grill or can I get to that area??

I do plan to get it to a covered barn that I am repairing as soon as feasible.

The first thing I would do is pull the plugs put in some ATF  let it set and  then drain the crank case fresh oil and then see if it will turn  nice rig.

No need to disassemble the front end.  Just get a crank for an A, B or C.  Like already said, pull the plugs put some atf in the cylinders and see if you can get it to turn.  Be patient, it may take some time if it is stuck.  I haven't had much luck getting one unstuck but definitely worth the effort to try.  Good luck, looks to be a good project.

Whoa ,take plugs out and look at them , if rusty , if so ,shoot some kroil in ,generous or pb blaster , lube up  valve stem s and work them up and down  ,shoot drops of oil in magneto  let oil in cylinder soak couple of days , norushing it . Tow it around in neutral till you can put the hand crank in it  to try and turn it over. What you don’t know for sure will cost you money if you force it

Desirable, rare-ish model, at least seems to be around here. 

Easy to haul.

Much easier to find parts for than that other piece of iron you found in the shed.  Looks like a no brainer to me.

The crawler is right before this project. Thanks for remembering!!!

Just turning summer here in the CO hills and have lots to tinker with.

I do have this crank, I was under the impression it goes to my TD6 crawler. Is there a chance it will do this Super AV??

How do these things work when it actually starts or backfires????

When the engine starts, the angled slots and the speed at which the engine is spinning together push the crank handle away.  You can see this illustrated on the end of your dozer crank.

 

If it backfires... well that's why you learn not to wrap your thumb around the crank.  

Remember, when you use a hand crank, you're not spinning the ending like the starter does, multiple times at speed.  You are rolling it over slowly to a compression stroke, then quickly pulling upward on the starter handle.  If it doesn't start you do it again.  If you see someone windmilling an engine with the starter handle, something isn't right.

Ok, What the heck is the size of the spark plug???

Went down to work on this and my 13/16 spark socket is too small.

Guess in tractors, everything is bigger!

My records shows that your farmall is a MODEL: Super Super A - vegetable version and was built in 1948

The A utilized the Culti-Vision offset engine/front end design, along with a wide front wheel track and dropped axles.

OK, update.

Working on this thing over the weekend. Dumped down the cylinders a quart of ATV fluid, and half a bottle of marvel mystery oil down the valves.

I did find a starter handle but of course no budge after only 30 minutes of soaking. But I have hopes. Plugs didn't look too bad and a can of penetrating oil will surely help all those thread s all over this tractor.

The only real opening was the exhaust pipe and it was at a 90 degree turn and hopefully long enuf not to allow much moisture close???

Make sure you don’t get hydraulic lock ? on cylinder, that so much oil it won’t rotate free when comes free, just a lite soak

Use 7/8 box end wrench if you use a 7/8 socket it will not reach ,it will be restricted by clearancebewteen head and plug. Have to turn a long 7/8 down on a lathe.  A Champion Spark plug D15 is a 18 Mm thread  , The NGK A6 plugs have a nice hex ,it’s 13/16 More standard .
