Mom and I went through I think 28 carousels of Her and Dads slides during nursing home visits and watched 130 hours of my kids and Her on vhs. That was some the most rewarding time I’ve ever spent.

mike newman
..Milford Sound ..... South Island NZ ..a very popular tourist destination...with unique underwater exploration possibilities for those so inclined..(think of our very own @lorenzo.....who lives with his oxygen tank permanently strapped to his frame....)....the constant seasonal 27/ 30 feet of rain creates an interesting environment for marine life ...this due to the ''tannins'' from leaf mould slightly darkening the water ...thus ''tricking'' certain marine life into thinking the water is very deep...so this creates this unique habitat....normally found at far greater depths.. Mike The Blue Ringed octopus is indigenous to that area of the South Pacific. That may be an example of one but its hard to tell from that picture. Its not quite right and looks a little too big. It may just be a common octopus using its natural ability to change color in an attempt to blend in with its environment. Either way the rule of thumb in those waters when encountering an octopus is to not mess with it !! If in fact its a Blue Ring they are deadly poisonous but i think its just a common octopus. I have seen a few, thanks for posting, that photographer got pretty close even though they are not known to approach divers.

Auckland Island and Campbell Island,,Both are very remote....have weather stations thereon..and permanent facilities for the Scientists and other assorted ''boffins '' that visit there....including some lucky, wealthy tourists... Remnants of the whaling era remain...plus several wrecked ships dating back to the 19th century There is, of course, a wealth of avian life... including two different types of Albatross. Mike In the Galapagos islands we would stand up on the top deck of our live-aboard with our arms out and those guys as well as Blue Foots would swoop in and land on us. They love french fries.
mike newman
...another view of Milford Sound...West Coast ....South Island ..looks beautiful there in that picture....but on one hunting trip , going out of Milford into another Sound , several hours further down the Coast....I spewed my days tucker intake out, again and again....., untill there was nothing to spew ...but....... mike newman
...the New Zealand Falcon...a veritable killer and defender of young as evidenced in the second picture... ..the Chamois ( pictured) ..was the quarry for a hunter I know well......This up in the mountains on the Rainbow Station...He got a good chamois and an equally good picture of the Falcon...about to give him the dew claw ''rip'' on the head .........
