sandhiller 16,647
This is awesome to me. I hope it is to some of you too. The next generation of ranchers starts right here By the way this was the branding where the "marbles in a jar" contest was born. Ranch owners grandson. He is an animal, never backed down from any calf. Even when they flung him off, he dove right back in to try to get control.

Little fella has to learn sometime so might as well be now. My grandparents owned a 2,000 acre farm in SW Kansas and I spent as much time as possible on the farm during both winter and summer. Spring roundup was always looked forward to. I still remember the groggy eyed kid, still a little nervous about getting wet from the morning dew and dung on the britches until the first calf was roped and the rear legs had to be secured. After the first calf, the britches were wet from the dew on the grass and dung seemed to be everywhere. Hot branding irons and guillotine dehorners, and the smell of burned hide, nuts in the bucket Grandmother would prepare for lunch, that was fun.

yellowrosefarm 585
I just had to cut all the ash trees down around my house because of Emerald ash borer. But, I now get a great view in the eastern direction. The mountain directly behind me to the west blocks the sun and makes for some interesting cloud pictures this time of year.

Pete1468 1,459
Hot shots birthday today, I already had the day off so I'm watching him ride his four wheeler around and I'm making him a race track with jumps and such. Eleven years goes by really fast if you aren't careful. He requested pork ribs for supper so I'll put those on shortly.
