cwburrell Posted April 26, 2020 Share Posted April 26, 2020 Recently took on this project to revive an 815 diesel combine. Hour meter shows 931 hrs which I believe to be accurate. Planning to use it to cut Milo stubble hay. Best I can tell it hasn’t run since 2004. So far the radiator is rusted out on the bottom, the water pump is locked up, and had to overhaul the starter. I’m sure that is just the beginning of the issues to come. Lol! Yes it’s been parked under the shed but it still seems to have collected a lot of moisture due to the open sides. Better than out in the open though. My 915 had the flip up shield like that as well as the dash like this one. I really liked that combine. Served me very well for 3000 hrs The 915 dad had maybe flip up shield was removed before he bought it. He had a 815 also before it don’t remember the shield on that one but I was 13 when that one left. I agree those later 15s were better combine than people describe them to be. bmk Posted June 24, 2020 Share Posted June 24, 2020 I still us a 1978 model 815 to shell about 12 acres of corn per year for cowfeed. I had a gas burner which was a older model that most of the parts are the same such as the radiator and most all the cleaning parts. It tries but it’s not able to pull itself out of the holes it’s settled into. Acts like something is bypassing in the hydrostatic drive and not building pressure. Check your foot n inch pedal to make sure it's not partially depressed as it would allow hydro pressure to bypass. Does your 815 still have that large sheet screwed under the cab if so maybe remove it and look at the valve from underneath . Hopefully it's that simple.
