I’m looking at this 244, I’ve read up on them....but I can’t find how many 4x4 models were made. Is this rare? Also any where I can find serial number Info to find out what year it is? Does anyone know if parts are readily available?

I would have thought the 2wd variant would be rare on those, but I could be wrong. Looks like a clean tractor.\

Interested Euro market 2850 with amish tires....

They were built in Japan for IH by Mitsubishi.  It's a 3 cylinder Mitsubishi diesel.  They're pretty tough tractors from what I know.  Normal parts like water pumps, starters, key switches are available.  All the sheet metal or stuff like that is unavailable of course.  I bought mine out of PA about 7-8 years ago.  I did injectors and just been chasing fuel and oil leaks here and there.

I changed from turf to Ag tires.  It will be the closes I will ever be to owning a 88 series.

Snow removal and brush or fire wood clean up at my moms house in the summer pulling a trailer.  Basically after buying a zero turn for grass cutting I still needed a tractor for odds and end.  Mine also came with a 3pt Woods finish mower.  Plus I always wanted a 88 series and this is the next practical thing to it.

Yes....does it have a block heater..?  I’d like a loader for it....looks like I’d have to search for the right one....

No block heater.  I just use the glow plugs in the winter.  Never had a issue starting, I do keep it inside so it does not see wind chill.

Yeah I think you may find it tough to find a loader for one unless one that has been parted out.  Ever now and then All State Ag Parts ASAP has one come up for parts, that's how I got my grill and headlights for mine plus a missing side screen panel.

Is that 244 a hydro?  Cant see the center Shifter.  How many hours, does not look like many?  Mine has around 1760hrs.

IH-branded loaders were still pretty scarce on the 234 , 244, and 254.  Most went to the aftermarket.

These tractors were often heavier and more robust than competitors.

As I recall, there was no official IH number for the loaders.  IH had a referal relationship for loaders on this series of compacts.

Compact tractors were a new segment of the market at the time growing by leaps and bounds.  The Ford 1000 compact and a few Kubotas were sold for the first time in the mid-'70s.  By the stock market crash in 1987, the market had grown to a staggering 40,000 units.

The 235, 245, and 255 tractors (the next series of compacts) offered the 5QA, 7QA, and 10QA loaders.

It’s a gear.....can’t remember the hours....do you know what number loader it would take? How much did you pay for yours ?

Not sure on the loader type.  I payed about $3k if I remember right for mine with a RM woods mower.  I designed the steel centers in Solid Works CAD and adapted a set of Kubota R1 rears.  The front are just standard 4 lug ag rims with VW lug metric bolts.

I ended up rolling a set of mains and rods bearing in it as there were signs of it over heating with the lack of thermostat and plugged radiator.  Bearings showed signs of heat or abuse but crank looked great.  Just did injectors last spring, by our very own member Ed at Heritage Diesel.
