You should have the crank turned and put her back together. It looks pretty clean. Shame to send her packing.

My Brother and I loaded up 30 RR ties by hand last weekend for a future project (had written permission from the owner). According to the scales they averaged around 240lbs each which surprised me a little bit.

Don’t know if these are really “projects” but just a couple of today’s tasks.

I had this idea for the pasture. So we spread all (or most) of our manure on it so there are dried cow pies and the dried manure that gets spread. I found that dragging cattle panels across it does have some benefit. So today I pile three 16 foot cattle panels on each other, chain them and pull it across the pasture. With this it will break up the manure that was spread and also loosen up the dead grass.

Here you can see where I’ve already been

Then we cleaned up the cattle pen and I spread two loads of manure.

Our local salvage yard is really good to deal with. Sometimes he is high priced on stuff, but I don't know if anywhere else that will let you take an engine home, take what you need, and bring back the rest.

That’s really nice service.

well update on the boat project - of course i have a rare bird, seems im lucky that way - special engine, special transmission, special blah blah blah in my case camshaft snout

long story short after 3 days of searching and contacting mercruiser and looking at engineering drawings and old vs superseded part numbers and them scouring their no longer available parts dealer database there is one left in the entire world - i called them today YO CANADIANS!!!! a boat shop up near prince edward island dug around and found it and its still in the original box and they sent me pix and its the ONE !!!! so now i dont have to convert mine to the different style and spend more $$$ - got the lifters coming from Crane Cams, found everything else NOS on ebay.

Still havent checked the pushrods but they should be ok. - will get more pix and updates when i get all the parts in and started back together - not sure how long it takes to get stuff from canada or how much duty will be

Several irons in the fire, bouncing between them as weather, kids and free time Allow. But...O4 reassembly, boiling a gas tank, diesel system rehab, and attending to all the oil and coolant leaks on the ODS6. Also Tore down an "A" pump for parts.

Next up is figuring out why my OS4 is starting so hard.

You don't want any of the casserole that came out of that tank. I was shocked at how well the tank bake worked.

Tore into the 2840 the other day. No real progress yet, just draining fluids and disconnecting lines getting it ready to split. Sucked up a full shop vac of dirt from under the operators platform.

I hate those little Mannheim built SOB's with their hydraulic system.... what do you have to do to it?

I see you have one of those different canopies on the IH in the last picture. I have one on a 544 I bought last year. Not sure if I’ll leave it on. BC2E07FC-87FE-477A-BEBD-800CB8A26CAE.thumb.jpeg.b9cde152c418f49f48d4451a28e4d58a.jpeg

If it wasn’t for the horrible hydraulic system it would be a decent little chore tractor. We bought it cheap a few years back when our 656 Hydro went down. It’s got a couple problems. The shifter boots are shot and are letting water into the oil, the oil seal is out and bleeding hydraulic fluid into the clutch housing, and I’m 99% sure that one of the steel supply lines that run through the trans housing up to the front pump has a crack or hole in it (common problem on these).

I have it split at the clutch right now just checking things out. It looks surprisingly good. Tomorrow I’ll split it at the trans to get in and do some troubleshooting.

I went back and forth for a while on whether or not I wanted to keep it on the 856 when I bought it. I’ve decided that I like it. I have the doors and windows for mine. Cuts down on the wind and cold a little bit during the winter.

Old trick I forgot about
put some heavy oil 30w on your finger and lightly rub over the numbers they should pop out and make it easier to read. be sure to watch the oil as it spreads in the that one number in question

Gave it a try, worked excellent. Took a while to get the oil residue off my laptop screen though !

I didn’t realize it originally had vinyl doors and windows. That’s pretty neat.
