Tunneldigger
Bought a 5088 today. Didn't they get advertised as the "New number one"? I have always wanted a 88 series. It will probably replace my 1486 as I think the transmission has given it up.
cedar farm
It was. When watching Oran Samuelson's US farm report In the early 80's, IH ran commercials of the 50 series on there. The new #1. Thought they were coolest looking tractor smade. Allis 8000 series a close second.

INTERNATIONAL 1466
Good looking 88 for sure! Remember those ads well, "The New # 1", couldn't wait to own one. I was only 11 at the time, my first was a 1/16th scale 5288. Didn't get a real one until 2008, love it.

Remember the magazine ads for the new # 1 showing the 86 series on a semi completely covered with a form fitted tarp with only the exhaust stack showing. Some had a colored decal like the OP has. Ours has colored rubber covers on the remote handles.

I gotta dig all that stuff out some day and inventory it all. I am embarrassed to say I have never had a chance to drive a 50 series tractor in the field performing field work. I test drove a 5088 once on a dealer's lot, that's the best I can say. Ugh! Oh but I also got to drive Danny's "5388" around the fairgrounds at a Red Power Roundup a few years ago in Ohio! I guess that also counts. Thanks again Danny!
