Rough night last night. Step son accidentally run over by big guy last night. Took him to emergency vet ,dr said xrays showed no broken bones, no internal bleeding, organs all looked fine. Said we'll keep him over night cause he needed oxygen, was kinda hyper ventilating. It looked like some bruising in neck area that might be causing some breathing problems. 2 am dr calls said he’s took a turn for worse, had to intubate him an sedate him to calm him. Doing chores wife calls we have call vet back to let him know what we want done, put him to sleep or send him to Cornell to specialist, this is 10 minutes before I have to leave for work. Can’t afford specialist so we had to do the hardest thing. Had to deal with that choice all day while trying to drive water truck an try not to lose my emotions.Just wanted to be left alone. Only 5 years old

pictures are from when we got him an his sister as pups, an the last one is this year with his little sister Bonnie

He got me, he choose me. When we got there to look at them he came over an sat down on my foot an looked up at me, didn’t scratch, beg for attention, just sat there an looked at me. I’ll remember that the rest of my life

an I couldn’t be there at the end, that’s gonna bother me for a long time, he died alone in a strange place.

sorry so long but after burying him tonight I had to let it out

Holy mackerel!!!

Do not apologize to us for telling us how you feel.  The passing of a creature that meant so much to you that you are so moved is a truly significant event.

I know firsthand how I have felt when a dog’s time has ended.

May you always cherish the memories that Clyde gave you!!!

I'm so sorry. That's awful and you have my sympathy. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Dogs are a gift from God and I appreciate them for what they are. I hope you recover soon, and can have another one. Everyone should have a dog. Life is better with them and life is better for having had them.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. One of the toughest things we have to do as an adult is make that decision.

I can tell he was loved and lived a very good life. He chose you and you were meant to live your lives together.

Find comfort in the fact that you took care of one of God's greatest gifts to man.

Sorry to hear about your dog but don’t apologize for venting. Nothing wrong with letting it out. Hang in there.

Sorry for your loss.   A good dog is truly a special gift from the Almighty.

A good dog is indeed a truly special gift!!!

Like I said before, cherish always the memories.

And remember, the loss that you now feel is testament to how very much that your dog meant to you!!!

My wife had the same experience. Went to pick out a yellow lab cause I wanted one. While I was looking a little female sat down by my wife. Long story short, we got two dogs that day. They were great dogs. And I emphasize were cause they're both gone now. So I feel your pain. Hang in there.

Thank you everyone for your words. Been a tough week. Watching his sister Bonnie waiting for him to come back has been heart wrenching, I wish I could fix it.
