"A" Farmall PTO

Recommended Posts

My PTO jumps out or gear. What would cause this? I looked at a parts schematic and I can't figure out what holds it in gear?

Detent ball but it's possible for the gear to be worn or a bearing being loose causing it to jump out of gear

The PTO shifting lever moves a fork that fits into a groove on the driven gear. When in the on position,  the 2 gears mesh together.   Failure of any part of this, could be the issue. Or a bearing failure can cause misalignment of the gears.

I my not have the actual terms right ,here goes. The lever has a single yoke pin I think. The pin is worn so it will not shift the forward and the ball detent I think it’s not  engaged. You can test it by the free motion in lever

all of the above is also very important
