1966 1200 pickup transmission

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 66 1200 pickup with a three on the tree transmission. I’m trying to figure out what model of transmission it is so I can get some parts. In my research it says it should have a Borg-Warner, but this transmission is side loaded, and none of the borgs I’ve seen are side loaded. It has the 266 v8

Info I have says the column shift trans is a Warner Gear T-98.  To know what your truck was built with, you need to get the lineset ticket from which we'd have to figure out what the IH code for it means.  You just need your VIN and $20.

You can get linesets from Super Scout Specialists or many of the other vendors: https://www.superscoutspecialists.com/store/p-406-line-setting-tickets.aspx

Or from the Wisconsin Historical Society where they are actually archived.

Every T98 I have seen is a directly shifted 4 speed.  If the 3 on the column  is like my 1960 B100 it is  a special wide ratio 3 speed. Your transmission probably has model and casting numbers on the case, some even have an ID tag. You need to clean it up and look carefully.

66 was a very good year for the IH pickups.
