This is my middle son's ag mech project for this year. I handle around 3k round bales a year. This should help speed up the process. 12 4x5 bales, hydraulic latches. 184 hours of his time. Super proud of him. Thanks for looking

Those double bale trailers are very popular here.

Your son's looks well engineered and built.

Nice job, you should get many years service out of it.

Looks like a great job. I have never seen that type. Only ones around here are the single row type.

Did he design it as well or were they a set of plans he used? Did he pick the project to build or was he told to build a bale trailer? That is an achievement he should be proud of. Well done Dad!

Thanks for all the words of praise/encouragement. This is a ffa project for ffa ag mechanic shows at stock shows. He is at fort worth this weekend. He chose the round bale trailer, with my approval. Since I sponsored/paid for. The plans were the thing that he struggled the most with. We looked at several round bale trailers and then started building. I have built trailers, barns and plenty of stuff. I never learned how to draw. I always built it out of my head. Right or wrong that is how this trailer was built also. He didn't draw the plans until it was done. Small sample of welding  3x4 3/8 wall tubing Thanks again.

Looks like he did a good job.  No matter what he does later in life I bet he learned more in those 184 hours than he ever would have in 184 hours of regular school.

I'm sure of THIS!

Dad built his oldest brother a round bale cart. Started with an old school bus chassis. Used heavy wall pipe to make the saddles. Two saddles on each side behind the wheels, three saddles ahead of the wheels. Figured ten bales per load.  About 2-3 months later Dad paid his brother a visit. There's his bale trailer loaded sitting in the yard.  16 (sixteen) bales on it!  Always good to build things stronger than they have to be.
