Super MD

Recommended Posts

I got an offer from a friend for a farmall super MD in trade for cleaning hay out of a barn. I don't know the condition or year, but figured a free tractor is a great offer. It is a wide front. Does anyone know value or general problems? I wont have an opportunity to see it till spring.

The MD used the gas-start diesel engine. These gas-start diesel engines are known for having cracked heads if they weren't cooled down properly before being shut off.

dont be afraid of a free tractor if it has value to you.

gauge your first impression and if stored inside all its life...

$50-$7K for resale  .$3500 avg operating

$25-$18 K in repairs  $300-6K normal / $2500avg

photos/details required

? if you do, 3 days cleaning his barn it is yours? or he needs feed ,so cleaning yours and that is bonus??

Sorry! I already accepted the offer. He is my brother's father-in-law and soon to be again.

Heck a free SMD? For cleaning out a barn? Sounds like a great deal to me.

Before turning the engine over if it has been sitting a long time, remove the valve cover and bump each valve with the end of a hammer handle to be sure a valve isn't stuck. The S182 farm truck I bought from my uncles action had two stuck valves on the BD308 and them trying to get it going they destroyed two hard to find push rods. On the MD the stating valves could be stuck also. If you force the switch over lever you may break the cast iron stands that hold the starting valve operating shaft on top of the head.

quite a price for an MD , I have a super m, and an MD and don't have bites at 1800.00. they are in nice original condition and run good, both are wide fronts from factory.
