Depends on where you live I guess. In my hills the 13 - 12 shift fits better than the 10 - 9 rpm drop. Shifting it confused too many guys, that trans was only around a few years.
IH OAK
Was there any connection between Ford's trucks and IH's Travelette? Or the Ford Caryall and IH's Travelall? How about the Scout and Bronco?? They just look similar to me.
Howard_P
No connection. IH had each of those first and when Ford wanted a piece of the action, they didn't stray too far from what was similar. Of course, GM's designs are also similar, except they went a different direction with the larger Blazer.
IH OAK
I was looking for engines and parts on eBay and came across a DV-573. I didn't know such a thing existed. I assume that it was a lot smaller than the DV-800. We're they more common? What were they put in?
IH OAK
Did they make 2 ton travelettes?
DWF
Quite a few DVT-573's ended up in construction equipment like TD20-C and 250-C crawlers. Some in Hough loaders too. I don't know much about S-series trucks. On a side note, don't let JMech get to you, he's a real pain. A few weeks ago he said he would no longer read your posts, but look what happened. Good luck with the TD9, things will get done in time. If you run in to what seems like a dead end, stop working on it for a while, then usually it will work out better. (yes, you can skip shift under light loads). The Super 10 is a great transmission, easy to shift, don't have to row as much, easy to skip every other gear.....UNLESS you can't switch your mind from the regular pattern. Some guys love them, some hate them. It just shifts different...timing is slightly off. If you want one of those trannys with all 10 speeds, just go to a local truck junkyard...likely mate right up! I had two trucks, a '95 White/Volvo with a S-10, and a '97 White/Volvo with a regular 9 speed. Sitting in the truck they look similar. You had to REALLY think which one you were in, and not start flipping the high/ low lever at the wrong time! The S-10, with a light load, I'd often start in 3rd, and go 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th. 3 shifter moves, one lever flip. You didn't want to go 8-10, too big a gap. The tractor pictured above was my 4386....that was just a standard 10 speed. I wouldn't have wanted to drive it 26mph on the road, 20 was plenty fast, they could start shaking. Pulled a tow between with dolly wheels for a while, if the dollys started whipping you could find yourself in the other lane real quick! One time there was a little ice on the road....glad there was a ditch to catch the tires.... A 4x4 doesn't steer like a MFD or 2wd....fast can be scary! First time I ever drove a super 10 was a 9400, N-14 of my buddies. He asked me to bring his truck to the fld for him. It was night and no interior cab lights worked. All he said was it was a 10 speed and I had only drove 9 & 13 speeds. Can't believe I didn't tear something up, finally found a gear it would go about 40 in and made it to the field, 5 or 6 mile. stopped, put it in 1st [ only gear I was sort of sure about ] drove it in field. Buddies laughing as he starts in "oh, I forgot to tell you - - - - "

Howard_P
You specifically said fenders which won't interchange. The basic cabs are the same, but I think I've read there may be some minor differences, but I'm not familiar with what they are.

IH OAK
I recon I am now looking for a crewcab Loadstar. Would a DV-800 fit in a Loadstar without a lot of modification to the truck? I am planning on putting on a pickup front end because I like the looks better.

IH OAK
Howdy Guys, I'm back. I think I am pretty set on either the '61/'62, or '63/'67 body styles. Here are: 61, 62, 63, and 67, Were the Loadstar/Travelette cabs interchangeable for these years?
R Pope
Loadstar cab is different in the cowl ahead of the windshield. It drops down to the hood where the pickups go straight ahead. The transmission in my 4586 has got all ten speeds in it. It will go into fifth only if the range lever is in low. Try going from 9 to 10 and the lever won't go past neutral. Put it in 5th and pull the hi-low lever to Hi and the shifter comes out of 5th.

I couldn't just change the hood, fenders, grill, etc. and make a loadstar look like a pickup??

IH OAK
Okay this thread has been dead for awhile, but I had some questions. In reading on the forum IIRC the DV-800 seemed to have been developed for trucks, didn't get too much success, went to scrapers, performed well at 1900 RPM, went to tractors and they wanted more power so instead of running at 1900-2100 and turning up the pump, they turned up the governor and they got problems. Correct me cause I'm sure I got something wrong. Anyhow, when I do this build, I am thinking to do a titanium crank and maybe cam, could I turn up the pump and turn down the gov. and get the same power with better lifespan? What was the maximum boost they could handle? Did they ever put Jake Brakes on them? Thanks.

I think you would be better served to get a good running engine to start with and not mess with custom parts.
