Today's opener rifle season deer in PA my oldest boy got a 5 point15 minutes after legal time. Then a half hour after that I shot one that I thought was the one I was after when I saw his brow tines 250 yards away I thought it was the one I was looking for

Didn’t see any good shooters during season today while feeding hay a monster eased thru the field right by me and the straight piped 5240 . I might use it for stand next year be a lot warmer anyway.

Sorry. I didn't have good enough service to upload....

First one is the boys second year on a junior tag, second one is me, third one my cousin, fourth is our mechanic got his first PA buck and he was really excited. As a matter of fact he got bad buck fever .

My wife would kill me if she realized that I had second thoughts about shooting that one (she wants it in the freezer). The time I shot I saw what appeared to be a G3 on the left side of the rack and I realized that it probably wasn't the one that I thought it was.

I can hardly believe it is 30 years ago since I was standing next to my cousin when he shot this big 8 on the second day I ever hunted in my life.

Also a screenshot of a big one 40 minutes East of us

Here's one from the day after Christmas 2017. Hunted a lot of years before getting a decent buck with the handgun.

These are two pictures of the one I was looking for. He was about 3/4 mile from where I was the first day when he was gotten. First one is the guy who got him. He looks like he's nicer than I thought he was . I had many pictures of him from July through just before archery started . I saw him twice chopping corn, once 300 yards from our one place and once mowing oats right after archery ended 60 yards from my stand . Lol

Got this guy this afternoon.  The doe seem to like to feed on our pasture grass every day.  The fences dont seem to even phase them.  I had seen antler moving in the thicket while the Does were in the pasture.  Next thing you know he stepped out of the brush. Nothing like some of the other deer on here but I was happy.

That's hunting. I thought it was a 5-10% chance he might be on us compared to where I was seeing him. I tried what I could. We had our mechanic at the end of the the property, me covering the other end hoping one of us might get lucky enough to see him.

Our second season starts tomorrow (12/5). I need to do a little freezer filling so I won’t be too picky this season. There have still been bucks chasing a little bit so there’s no telling what a guy might see.

Nice frosty morning. Clear and cool. Going to warm up some today and then weather may be crumby the rest of the weekend.

You might be a redneck if....

no antlers, just good meat

sure we have a 4-wheeler but I had to see if the old Fat Cat was up to dragging a sled...

Even did field dressing with a knife I made from scratch. That’s kind of a big deal to me. I’ve dressed every deer I’ve ever killed with the same Buck 119 knife I bought used for $40 as a kid from the local gun dealer with yard mowing money.  This knife is O1 tool steel and seems to have the same edge on it now as it did before I started. That includes splitting ribs so I consider the knife a success now also.

That knife is beautiful in it's simplicity. Looks well balanced, and very comfortable to use. Very nice.

Seems like in the past couple years all the 20 somethings around here tried their hand at knife making. Some real talent emerged.

This knife was made local and given to me by the owner of the truck I drive for hitting my first 1000 loads hauled for him. The light color is supposed to be mastadon ivory. If it is that is kinda cool.

My younger boy got a spike tonight, his first deer. Perfect shot, 308 @55 yards. My brother also got a doe with a gun he wanted to get one with ......his 50bmg !!!!!  Exit side is unreal.

Tomorrow is the last day. Taking the oldest out for a morning hunt. She could shoot a buck or doe. She did miss a buck last Tuesday ( unfortunately :( )

My daughter got her first buck/deer tonight.. spike with only fifteen minutes to go. Phone went dead when I tried to get a picture. I will take a picture with the cape tomorrow.

Recap of the season for me. Two of my kids got their first deer . Thomas got one two years in a row and I got one . We got 7 total buck at the farm. I am nervous if there will be any next year.

My one neighbor was going to pass up a 140" ten point if they saw it. I should hear tomorrow if they know if anyone else got it. I am hoping it made it through the year
