Todays find

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a Couple of cadets a 682 and a 125. The 682 has Kohler 17 Series2 Is this a points system.  Got both of them for 80 dollars. Will try and get pics on here. They have been sitting awhile.

All KT engines are points.

The 682 is IH built, so that's cool.

You definitely didn't over pay.  There will be lots of work to get both going again.  Drain the oils and change it before running.  Engine and rear ends.  The KT may or may not still be good.  I wouldn't hold your breath on it. The K is cheap and easy to rebuild if it is done.

If you are talking about yours above, I can see the SN plate in the pics.  It's IH built.  The MTD tags were much larger.

That's no proof though.  Early MTD's had cast rears.  Dad had one and I've got one now. They didn't switch to aluminum until like 84.

I just checked my book.  SN 720,000 and above was aluminum rear.  Under that was CI still.  Switch appears to have been made in early 1983/late 82.  Book had an error in the yearly production number, or CCC didn't list 82/83 seperate.  Production numbers for 82/83 were combined.
