Something custom or the original? lf it's the original, how do they re-finish it? I am wanting original but it is dished pretty deep and makes it pretty tight with new column and seat done up with more padding . have two others in mind we’ll see what works best Tony

Tonyinca
10/4/21 End by end of day . propane tank back from blasting , now to propane co for new valves etc . the lift’s motor and gear box has been rebuilt and painted and is being mocked up . Estimating measurements of tires and bed , however , wheels are not here yet so trying with just the tire . tony 3

Tonyinca
10/4/21 Question for you guys ! look at bed see the stakes around bed ? two options ; 1st paint stakes red use 1x12 board line it with thin polished stainless covering both sides inside and out all way around bed . 2nd option ; chrome stakes use good quality 1x12 and Polyurethane it to the hilt all way around . Pictures for reference . the floor will be black powder coat Diamond plate , tank will be Red with chrome mounting frame and hold down straps . Lift will be red with yellow zinc coated chain . Sides of bed and head board will all be red , bottom of bed and frame black tell me you thoughts on each option please Tony

But regardless of how you decide, l hope you paint the LP tank red.
Sledgehammer
Since you asked. It’s a classic truck with classic designs. You have kept a classic look so far with modern parts. I like the idea of the wooden side boards. Something hardwood, stained, and coated as you say with maybe a matte finish urethane. The matte or semi-gloss finish will allow the grain in the wood to show while not being too bright/reflective as the urethane table top in the pics show. Your paint will stand out more and will shine plenty along with the other polished bits you do so well with in your restorations. Just my opinion though, not my truck. Do as you see fit Tony. Your choices have never under-whelmed me yet and I don’t expect they will here either my friend. 😊
Tonyinca
This is the original look . my wife is with you Guys ; Go wood ! Tony
hardtail
I like Sledges suggestions sometimes urethane are hard to up keep on exterior applications and selecting the right gloss finish is key 1
Sledgehammer
You can see what I’m talking about some in these pics. This was 100+ year old yellow poplar I believe that was rough sawn. Pardon the hand made hooks. It was a house warming gift for my buddy who had just finished a new house. Planed wood would probably look better on such a nice truck but this is a satin poly coating I believe over staining I did. 1

At least the farm equipment restorations that I do here at home , I have some control over and know what's next but these pick up resto's that a shop does, its always a hurry up and wait situation and after two years and three months ,I start to push a little. the "Redkid" pick up that I had done before this one took three years first resto then I needed more updates and it took another year and a half. In all honesty I'll be 76 in fourteen days and i am running out of five year restoration increments !lol lol. In most resto's by time your in building mode most of the heavy money has been spent on repairs or mods and if something was to happen to me or builder the project is worthless if not a runner or at least a roller, plus if one does not stay on top of it , its easy to loose interest' especially with checks going out every month . lol lol.
