Farmall 706 Diesel Fuel Tank Line Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, I would really appreciate some feedback about F 706 Diesel fuel tank lines. On removing my tank I found the fuel return line next to the main supply line, the water drain line is in a separate location. Is this the correct configuration?

Yes, that is the correct places for the lies.  There is supposed to be a check valve in that fuel return line. Three or four  purposes, one it keep fuel from draining out of tank when removing the line and second, more important, is that it keeps a little residual pressure in the body of injection pump along with keep water from working it's way down that line during long periods of shut down.  Another is the check valve has a extended tip that sits well above fuel level in tank so any moisture that freezes will not plug the line causing no run situation.

When IH introduced the 856 Custom model tractors, they used the smaller tank like on a 706-56 and they immediately sent out a urgent letter along with a  check valve to be installed  in that line under tank.  If they thought it was that important they had their reasons but somehow, the first ones were sent out without a check valve.
