My new to me IH 71 three wire baler arrived !

Recommended Posts

I have not baled my thin drought damaged forage mix  yet. But I do have the 290 out filled with wire.

The loop on the top of the twist was always a give away that the bale came from a IH baler.

I know I’m a week late on the post lift subject Tony, but please be careful moving it with anything heavier than what it’s designed for. I would hate to see a “Red Kid Down” post if something failed.

Looking forward to seeing photos of the baler in the field!

Oh for sure ! Lift is rated at 9000lbs lift , Redkid is 3500lbs.  I am contemplating several options , like solid deck and store lessor used eq. like two small plows ,Dyno , hay mower on lift , park two smaller tractors under. that should free up four stalls and keep RedKid on ground level, next year get another and free up more ground level stalls.

Ill be going to Red Power Round Up ,God willing, so hay baling should take place late July, that's the plan depends on cutting and irrigation schedule.

I wish B.J. but no , Just Carol and I and Motor home.

If all goes well RedKid has been interred in the GoodGuys West Coast Classic Car Show in Pleasanton, CA. To be held August 27-28-29 of 2021 . Blows my wanting to go to Rantoul of this year but this is my chance to play with the big boys while RedKid has the support to be there.

I don't trust the DRIVER of the MH 37 ft and 26ft enclosed trailer . plus don't trust trailer itself, I've had issues with it.

If it gives me issues before Pleasanton , I am getting rid of it.

B.J. , I am rolling it in my mind to work something out for  OHIO RPRU. ( Just between you and I )

John and I did more  minute adjusting on knotter , we are feeling pretty confident at this point that it will tie bales okay .

painting white light side rim black , getting pulley brake pad fitted with break lining at friction shop . These will be done while I am gone to RPRU

Hope to be back to baler in mid July

tony

PS;  6/18/21

Was  able to finally get pulley brake finished , mocked up , tweaked up , painted, and brake pad riveted .
that turn out to be a tuffy because of no templates , so had to rely on little geometry , cut here , measure there ! By gosh and buy golly!

Tony, what tractor do you plan on pulling the baler with? 560 or 806?

Would like to pull with our CAL-Tex 806.   I may pull #100 balance head mower off 560 and use it, if this darn 806 does not quit giving me fits!

when I get back from RPRU,  Need to pull valve cover, possibly head . that slight miss has developed into a clatter on top or near # 1& 2 cylinders.

That head has been through machine shop twice since restoration began . Time for different head even though machine shop says there is nothing wrong with it.

Wanting to totally finish baler ,so I can move on to other things that need attention .

looking forward to being home late tomorrow 7/12 , getting back to baler and getting her into field !

RPRU was a good renewal of energy to keep this IH old iron going !

we will be heading out of Los Vagas  early AM trying to be just ahead of those predicted high temps through the dessert .
however , they are predicting 100 plus at home but it’s been running 15-17 degrees cooler at home then Vagas and much cooler nights .

John and I will just have to run every cooler I can get my hands on and move happy hour up to 2 pm instead of 5 pm lol lol and ice water rather then a brew ! Lol

Hope to see ya back at the shop shortly

Back at it , installed pulley break , made necessary adjustments and got rid of belt squeal during idle !

Belt will always squeal when engaging . Our original baler always did till the end .

Worked on three shields to put in place.  Attached swivel for hand control  of hydraulic pressure control
