Tonyinca
Another batch of small parts back from painter. i am waiting on him to finish two more batches that I took to him , then baler goes. i reversed the rims to see if I can get her down enough to fit in his paint room. think I have , I hope ! been taking parts off baler to make it easier for him but it’s still going to require a snake to get to all ! Walk around with magnet picking up pieces of bolts . Lol have a whole bolt bin devoted to this project and still not enough. but it’s fun ! Went through book and ordered every bolt on baler tony
twostepn2001
Tony l know you had your reasons for not going with propane fuel, but dang!!! Can't you just imagine a bright yellow tank on top?? and l bet it would have that same shine and luster as the tanks on the SMTA and the 806. ?
Tonyinca
8/26/20 quite a day ! started out changing out the flywheel , took the good off to go to paint , and installed another flywheel so David can use it to cycle plunger while painting . took right side tension channels off for better blasting and easier painting it off and hanging Finally started the original pick up reel, Not user friendly taking it apart for sure so many hubs to get off center drive shaft . Had to run to town for a new pulley puller kit . Lot of heating and pulling . going to take two reels apart to make one going to need some sheet Metal made and some machining of drive shaft Bushing and housing along with Devine intervention finding five new roller bearings for cam track following and another drive sprocket clutch needing facing and new clutch pads. few pics tony

I can visualize it also , However, with not any known of these out there ,operating or other wise , I wanted to preserve the factory look as much as possible and going propane was going to change original look too much . imho. AS it worked out, the propane motor that I had bought for it ended up being a parts & sheet metal donor for the original engine rebuild. I am very happy the way the original engine turned out. Plus I never really found a tank that I felt looked the part for this baler. Tony

Its amazing as we prepare for painting we are finding many items that need replacing or repairing. Putting it together first round we concentrated on the obvious bad pieces but as we go through with fine tooth comb we are finding many items that did not stand out before , but in analyzing them , they need attention to make right. Example; Chamber tension channel on right side of baler , we decided it would be easier to paint if we removed it . I studied mounting holes and they appeared to be perfectly open ended. After researching , they were pulled off at some time . Back to the donor ,sure enough , square holes not open slotted at back . Took good one off donor and back to blaster ! David my painter is one of a kind, one man show, very cantankerous about doing it right. He makes me look good and proud. But I have to be very patient ! he needs to work on his own schedule and his own pace. Tony

They need very little mechanical work BUT lot of COSMETIC work. Bought them several years back but have not had a chance at them yet . Also the red 55W baler in background of 2nd pic is a donor for the good 55W in shed. Tony

Blaine I have to admit that I am getting Pyrenoid, That every thing I look at, needs repair .or that I missed something to repair and have to dismantle a lot to rectify lol. Would like to move on from fixing and striping to putting nice clean painted parts back on before I forget where they go .lol. David is painting all the small parts now, when finished I will take baler , once its done, then reassembly begins and by then hopefully every part has been looked at and repaired if need. Painting is little more arduous on this because using new paint formulation ( getting use to its properties, Silly Cali formulated paint.) and the fact that David is juggling being full time health provider for his brother and fitting in the prep work and painting , very slow but paint is turning out great , I just need to be patient ! I think and hope anything that needed attention on main baler is done , However, this reel is going to take some machining and metal work , its going to take time . I been doing homework and may have found a set of 13 stripper tins NOS and a roller cam tract NOS , however I need 5 new tyne bar roller bearings and only found two so far. Will see if bearing house can help me out. Tomorrow , 9/2/20 we start dismantling the second reel ,will take the best parts from each to make one . Margarito, my sheet metal guy will need to make the sheet metal fins at both ends, Hope he can, they are unusual shapes and all welded into one piece. Ill take pictures of it tomorrow of what I am talking about Tony
Tonyinca
Great Baler therapy Wednesday 9/2/20 I had first pu reel all set aside And some parts at blaster. started on second Today , which was off Cali baler . It looked great averything came apart easy because the old guy before had had it apart many times . Was not able to use much off of it . it is wore to the bone and welded every which where . we are salvaging it never know what might need took drive sproket and brake lining to friction shop for facing and new brake pads john removed all the St 643 bearing on ends of Teeth bars . I am searching for new . the PU frame we want to use went to blaster Today the one thing good on second reel is the metal work on ends , so , I think we will use those on the good frame , they are tacked welded on . Have not talked to Margarito the metal man might be easier just for him to make new ones. i decided motor mount should be off for paintIng , Glad I did bolts rotten and lot of rust scale underneath . at this point there is nothing else to dismantle ! “ I THINK !” last two pictures are basically junk of second pu reel however , we are trying to salvage the outer sheet metal . PS that handsome fella smiling in pic is John my partner in crime ! Few pic from today Tony
TroyDairy
The effort you are putting into this for maybe 100 bales in its life behind the 560 is ridiculous. And I ADMIRE every detail! I really hope Carol does good on the sale at a future date. These units you do up deserve the value they deserve for your efforts to make them better than OEM. Good job, you should be proud and since its Wed...sit in the shade and have a cold brew and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

You are absolutely right it’s ridiculous , thank you for your thoughts of work and detail . but this and my 20 acres of Almonds and helping Carol manage rentals is what I do in my early stage of retirement. i am ANAL once I start a project if it’s something that I ran new as a youngun then I want it the way I remembered it . once you start where do you stop ? Btw , I have to make it easy for you to bid At widow sale being you have bidders card # 1. Lol it’s a Disease but I love working in my shop on a project and only God knows how much longer. appreciate your thoughts and in the real world you are right . To be honest ! This baler is trying to beat me, in work. And expense , it cuts us no slack , but I am bound and determined to make her bale again like I remember back 1963 to 1974 . I hope and pray I don’t need to bale more then 100 bales because that would become WORK . Lol tony
exSW
That pickup is going to test you. I thought knotters were bad. Pickups are spring loaded movement. You have to hold your mouth just right. I don’t think I could assemble one sober.

Tonyinca
9/10/20 that much anticipated day finally arrived ! after some last minute fine tuning it was time to give the old girl a bath and take Her to the Beauty Salon ! the flywheel is a donor just during painting so David can move the plunger as he needs .When he is done with inside of baler we will remove donor Wheel so he can paint behind it . Then install good painted wheel for trip home He will paint the good one separate . We hot washed it using purple power degreaser cleaner Three times . Fella with face shield is John, I am the Big old Dude with no protection . Lol BTW will not be using those rims and tires . Rims and tires will be the same except black Rims and newer tires few pics Tony
