preserving original paint

Recommended Posts

So just took delivery of two Ud power units. Both have good original paint. How do you preserve it?

I am doing that to a W9 mccormick and I was told to use clear coat spray. clean it up good and give it a light sanding with 800 or 1000 grit sand paper.  wipe it down with alcohol or that other prepaint cleaner and spray it.  it does bring the shine back as I tried it on a bit. then you have the original pantina.

If you can store it indoors most original paint will last a long long time. A coat of wax won't do any harm either. I've sprayed clear varnish on some parts of my 52 Merc that were down to bare metal in hopes it will prevent rust. Time will tell I guess. It sure looks good now.
