Loadstar
It might not be for everybody but if you can stand a little horror, I really like the opening of "Dawn Of The Dead" where Johnny Cash gives a chilling performance of When The Man Comes Around. Just a warning for those that are easily offended by gory scenes, you might want to just do the audio. But the music is worth it.

KWRB
I'm gonna post two First is Metallica's Fade to Black. If you've never heard it, it's probably not what you think. This song saw me through a really, really dark part of my childhood. It continues to inspire me in my volunteer work. The song is about suicide. It was the first time in my life it had been "talked about" so to speak. It made bad feelings seem like something real. And the singer who was singing these things was STILL ALIVE, and that was the magic of it. The emotion in Metallica's music has always been cathartic to me. Whether the song is angry, aggressive or in this case just sad, it's always been therapeutic in a way. I once learned that when Pachelbel composed his Canon, that some among his contemporaries felt it was THE perfect composition, that pursuit of a masterpiece after it would be futile. I feel that way about the music here. Each note feels not like someone put it there, but like it BELONGS there. Again, Public Service Announcement: Sometimes life is really really shitty, and sometimes it can't be fixed right now. Keep fighting and reach out. For the guys who only listen to country: Almost the exact opposite kind of music as the first song. This one is the wedding song I chose for my wife. I told her I wanted one say in the whole wedding. I wanted to pick the song. This song's never been on the radio but I think it's Jason Isbell's very best work. Turns out the whole wedding was perfect in every way, but this song is a perfect description of where I was and how I felt in my life when I asked her to marry me. I'd accomplished a LOT as a student, an athlete, a professional and a coach. As it happens, a lot of my "greatest moments" were traveling, alone and I wished desperately I had someone to share it with. Despite everything have gone so well, I was alone and I realized that happiness was only ever going to occur when I had a family. My wife came into my life at the perfect time, I think. Don't tell her that, though. ?

Loadstar
Heres another favourite of mine that the old engine guys will enjoy. Big old one lunger engines keeping time while the Ole Hemmingson trio does a fine rendition of "Lover Come Back To Me". I've watched this video many times.
Steve C.
The redhead and I got to see Jason and his lady Amanda Shire open for John Prine a couple of years ago. I liked him with the Drive By Truckers and have some of his solo stuff now too. His lyrics are full and I like the way he sings. Here's a relatively new one, followed by a gritty old Truckers song.
