The Sunshine and Soft Kitten Paws Only Thread

a 67-72 doaner body

I sold my 72 a while back and only really only have a 79 SC body, a 79 3/4t rolling chassis and a 79 half ton that should still run and drive. I also have a 62 3/4t 4x4 that is kinda neat. Maybe if I won that lottery thing I would have the money to get them all back up and running again. They are all on the way back burner for now (except the 77 waiting for the 6 cyl). The 76 i'd like to fix up some day cuz it was FIL's and I forgot about the 78 back there too. Oh crap there is a 65 rolling chassis back there too and a 90 CC with a blown 7.3 and another 90 Reg cab with a bad 7.3. I'd better stop now the wife is circling. I always said if I could just get another pickup home and parked she would never notice it. The trick was getting it up the driveway and unloaded and parked before she caught me. 😋

What im really looking for, but but not all that seriously is either a 67-72 doaner body for the 70 i got a while back or a decent 99-02 reg cab, 8' box 4x4 with a 7.3. Either one of those would be my sunshine and kitten paws for the time being. 😁

The 70 body I have isn't worth trying to save, and my 99 PSD 6 speed with Bradford flatbed I will never sell.  Sorry for the tease, couldn't restrain myself.  Probably didn't try hard enough 🙄😜😖

I bought a 95 with a PSD and a plow for 15-1800, can’t quite remember now, took the plow as that’s why I bought it, it had been parked due to an injector pump issue. We got it running, I gave it to my friend for his 77’ I think it got scrapped eventually.

There is something quite satisfying about putting a cat in clothes.  I might have just found a great use for anything orphaned winter sock!  Gotta keep the kitties warm in this polar vortex round two.

Sometimes when I was younger, say 16-18, on the warm quiet summer nights if I couldn't sleep or had something on my mind, I'd walk down the road in the moonlight and just take in the smells and sounds. Some summer nights nowdays when I come back late from my shop across the road, I'll stop and set down on a tractor or a piece of machinery on my walk back home, and do the same thing. Just set and listen to the sounds and the smells of the night, reminisce about my younger days and how free of a time it was back then. It brings me back to when I was younger for a few minutes. Sometimes a neighbor girl would meet up with me and we would walk and talk in the dark quiet of a back road. A lot different now.

I think you summed it up right there. Nobody takes the time to "walk" anywhere anymore (on purpose, I mean). I'm guilty, not enough time, gotta go, gotta go. There are times, usually shuttling equipement between meadows (now that I am haying by myself) that I have to walk. More than likely a neighbor will drive by and give me a ride and I say thanks but half wish no one would have come by. I think it's more mental than anything as it forces me to slow down and relax.

I've noticed that a lot, when I park the truck around 2 or 3 in the morning, town is quiet except for a few dogs barking at the howling coyotes who are teasing the dogs. Not even any traffic on the highway this time of the morning. It's almost surreal, all these people (it's a town of 177 after all) and not a sound. At home it's quiet any way except for the birds, at night they are asleep and all I can hear is the distant roar of the falls from the Niobrara. The damn coyotes make their run along the river going east just after dark and back west just before sunup and sound like a bunch teenagers on a field trip. Other than that, I fully agree, just take the time to sit and enjoy the sounds and smells of the night! You sir, nailed it.

lets not forget the silence outside on Christmas eve.

Roads are abandoned. Mall lots are empty. Neat.

Nothing more relaxing than checking cows just before sunset.  It just seems quiet and peaceful, cows are getting settled and it's just nice.  Sister in law was raised in town, small town but never really got out on a farm.  She is a year older than me so seen a few mornings, but a few years ago she visited a friend of hers.  Three of them get together once a year and that time they went to this girls place.  It is a nice cattle farm around owensboro Ky.  One evening they road out on the side by side and checked the cows, she came back and was telling us about the trip and told that story, said it was one of the most peaceful things she had ever experienced.  Tell us something we don't know!   So blessed I got to experience that growing up!

Talking about the smells, I did a job over in Carthage Tn a few years ago, since it's 1 1/2 hour drive in the dump truck I didn't want to go back.  Loaded up and headed back after dark.  I usually take back roads in the truck and it was a warm spring night.  Smelled pretty much every smell the country has to offer from cows to fresh turned dirt to fresh cut hay and pastures sprayed for weeds.  Not sure I will ever forget that night ride, I do miss living on a farm!!

68 head of fine looking Hereford steers walking off my trailer this afternoon.

Edit: I’ve been self quarantined in the truck today, except for loading & unloading & a fuel stop.
