This was Chief.

He wasn't feeling up to par Sunday, and got worse as the day went on. Called the emergency line at the vet, and got him in about 6 pm. She took some x-rays of his stomach, and sent us to another vet who kept him over night and then did exploratory surgery Monday morning. Bad news was inoperable stomach cancer.

So long buddy, you were the best rescue I ever had.....😢

Mike

My deepest sympathies Mikem

As Mr Newman stated, there are a bunch of oldies on here that have spent their lives around dogs and couldn't imagine life without them.

I can tell Chief was happy and well loved.

As time goes by, try to remember the good times you shared and smile, it is how I cope with the loss.

My thoughts are with you.

I made it home for a couple hours of daylight. Dolly came to show me her frisbee then while I was grilling some burgers Dude stole it and she wanted me to make him give it back.

Had a health scare with Dolly, that’s mostly better now.  Her back is even worse than mine with bone growth osteoarthritis and man it found a nerve last week early.  She was just falling down over and over due to loss of feeling in the back legs (likewise for me last year).  Her vet (great vet, great fellow) gave another anti inflammatory and she’s getting around and can do her business.  Still rides, but has to be lifted into anything now.  I don’t mind.  My back is better and I need to lift weights, and she’s weighty (I always liked a rounded gal).  Thought she was older but I think I’ve figured her for 13 now.  For an English Shep, that’d be like a 78 human.  May have months or may have years.  Best dog I’ve had (only one really, the others were Dad’s, and she came with the farm).  More days with my buddy.

Hauling calves.  Dolly used to help, but is retired, not even walking the catwalk at the salebarn, but watches and rides.  They hire the prettiest young ladies at the barn.  If I were a young man, and someone came up with a perfume like diesel exhaust, plowed ground, and cow manure, I’d have been lost to it.

That quite true, I recall stopping at a bar one evening in the early 90's after a 12 hour shift and off the next day, I was only there for a couple but there were some attractive young ladies there watching what type of car pulled up that seemed to match the interest and engagement when the young fellow entered the bar, last I saw was a young farmer pull up with a farm truck and dressed to match and they let him pass with nary a word and I thought out of all the people that had entered in my short time there he probably had the most assets and wasn't living on plastic, quite fitting I thought

Feline TKO, now cleaning paws after the fact.  Is your cat named Tyson?

Lol no blood shed this time lol. Cat occasionally gets winstons nose and then the fight is on 😂.  They play pretty gently together surprisingly.  The cat will even come and try to get Winston to play with him once in a while. Better entertainment then what’s on tv these days.
