The Dog Thread

Although technically not your typical "dog thread" candidate.......

This guy ran/ trotted/ loped/ stopped to look back/ made every turn for about a mile in front of the feed tractor this morning on the way home from the cows.

When I turned right to go up my lane, he turned left and headed up river.

My black and tan used to do that when we rode in the truck. I still miss him 15 years later.

Would love to see pics of him if you have any.

Pancho was the coon huntinist sonofagun I have ever had.

Miss him greatly.

This was Jasper. He was in a group of 8 wild puppies I found down at my other place when I first bought it. He had the same hunting instinct as your dog. I had to physically remove him from the tree once something was chased up in it. I could go on and on about what a great dog he was. He topped out at 120lbs but was as graceful and fluid a mover as I've ever seen. He also never showed the slightest aggression toward any person. He saved all that for the farm varmints.

Twenty minutes after leaving his momma and litter mates he quit trying to get out of the pickup. Came over and laid on my leg. He spent the next 5 hours on the drive home right there. We were bonded.

His Lion King doll, took it everywhere

He liked helping chore in the corrals by carrying back empty buckets or feed sacks

Although not a cow dog he liked helping move cattle.

Loved lounging in the sun

Always liked knowing where I was at

To the end, liked laying on my leg.

You were a good boy Gus

Rest in Peace Old Buddy

Thank you Lord for letting me care for him.

I could never repay the unconditional love he gave me.

I am sorry for your loss Sandhiller.  This is a sad coincidence…..my border collie Harvey passed the same day as Gus and he was born 31 March 2009.  The only fault that dogs have is that they don’t live long enough.647B52B1-A529-4B27-B8BB-0740ECB39C92.thumb.jpeg.58fb24f5cb597ad61417785b0ce2d8b3.jpeg

I am sorry for your loss as well.

I have been through this many times and it seems to get harder with each passing.

Could not imagine my life without a dog at my side however.

That is a great shot of Harvey.

I can see the love and admiration in his eyes!

Feel for both of you, the only one I have left now is coincidentally the only indoor dog we have ever had and is showing signs of age, now my turn to show back the love they gave all along, I have always had a dog but this might be the last one...if there's another it's going to have to ride

Sorry to hear about your guys loss. As Sandhiller said it seems harder to deal with as we see this happen more and as we age and really get close to another pet.
