..re Gus's  last Xmas  with you folk......

...I ,like other's, no doubt   who frequent this topic  thought that rather sad......so I thought I would relate to you a 'dog tale  '......a little gimpse into the past , but an event which , at the time, was highly amusing...still is in fact....

The dog in question , was named   "Zack''...and he was an exact replica of your ''Gus''.....and just as interesting....

Zack's   friend who brought him new collars, registered him every year...brought him special biscuits , drove Zack around in a new  ..(at the time ..)   Ford Falcon, to look at various contractual jobs, because Bob   was  an  Earth moving Contractor....Thus Zack spent a lot of time  in the Falcon    ..or   on the floor of a   big Hitachi Excavator....I worked   with Bob Taylor  for some time......and one other memorable day was we were looking to build a large dam on an orchardist's   property...The Falcon was parked on the top of a small  hill...overlooking the orchard and the propective dam site....and as there were those ''toy ''  dogs running about with property owner, Zack was left in the car...Zack had a thing about  ''toy'' dogs....they brought out about the only mean streak in him.We wandered down into the mass of old "Granny Smith "'  apple trees and   walked out the  dam site....  took awhile, and when we we walked back up onto the hilly area  ...the Falcon was gone...no where to be seen....vanished.     Bob was any easy going bloke...said he thought he left the car in "park"....(column shift auto...)...but wasn't sure., So a brief   survey revealed the car wedged in   the old apple trees...it had sort of  run down parallel   to the rows then finally crunched  up against   one ...doing quite a lot of superficial damage...Zack would have spotted those ''toy'' dogs and   lept up at the winscreen and somehow knocked the shift arm out of 'park''   and away....

Anyway,,,we were doing a ''shape correction ''  on a little used County road, involving   putting a massive ''Armco ''   culvert   in the bottom of a gully, to replace  an old ''trussed' wooden bridge....The  road wound down into the gully and wound up and out   on the other side...heading into a straight bit of road with a distinct ''down grade''   We were taking our lunch break....sitting up in the grass with   all  machines   turned off.... and across the t'other side of the gully , a horse and  wagon hove slowly into view....it eventually climbed  out on our side....a very smart looking mini ''Conestoga  ' type wagon...complete with  all the requirements of   that sort of life style ...including , tethered    behind    the wagon, a dog....an exact replica of Zack....except for one ''fundamental    orifice''...shall we say....thus...as the wagon passed by and headed down the ''down grade ''beyond...Bob Taylor  said, to no one in particular..in his laconic way.....'''its not that often you see a dog with   two heads and six legs...'''

..guess you had to be there..but it shore was amusing....Zack turned up eventually....tired...but happy....

... there is a lot of us out there that love the old hounds......all the best, Jeff,  with "Gus"  for the foreseeable future....

Sometimes.... dogs make you wonder.

Just got the couch cover out of the dryer, put it back on, folded my laundry, set it on the couch & sat down to read over the forum.... when Loki jumps up on the couch, throws the laundry on the floor, peels the cover off & piles it up on one end to lay on.

So.... I get the laundry piled back on the couch so I can put it away, when he figured his job just wasn't done good enough...

IMG_20220107_134528.jpg.34b183e8e9d0ab20a5adbf8826e9edb4.jpg

So he plows the cover onto the floor....

IMG_20220108_145556.jpg.a4e25fa92decee69d3871539d25e5e66.jpg

And then expects attention for his "good job". Sheesh!

One great thing about him, his antics are a source of amusement. Good for a cloudy winters day like today. Hope y'all are staying warm.

Wonder if he would refuse to cross lines painted/taped on the floor?

Perhaps he is Hank's partner in ranch security?

Such a photogenic pup.

I suppose it could be her chauffeur knows how to take a great picture.

Me and Emma need to discuss his behavior as of late 😀

Missed your input @lorenzo

Good looking dog What breed?

Border collie,   Dad is a pure bread but mom has a wee bit of blue healer somewhere down the line so Emma got the blue healer attitude and short hair.   Smartest dog i have ever had, obsessed with frisbee, goes with me 24/7.

Looked for my dog for over a half hour today

We had a chocolate lab that would do that on a brown leather couch, if she didn’t like the prospect of the day’s holdings she would lay still with her eyes closed “pretending” to be deaf. You could walk by her 6 times and not see her.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had two Border Collies both were great and totally different.

One was a crazy goose chaser dog from a golf course

That they had to place him because he would chase the women joggers.

Bill was his name he did back flips, chased coyotes, and was non stop with the ball, very protective would go after dogs 3 times his size if they came on our property.

Roscoe was the second we got him as a pup wasn't quite as obsesed with the toys,  followed me every where, very athletic he would run in front of me on the mountain bike.

Poor guy had a spinal embolism was paralyzed in the rear  and taught him self to walk and run again by bunny hopping with the back legs.
