I have really enjoyed this thread. I am amazed that so many of you have so many dogs in your houses. My wife never had a dog in the house while growing up neither did I.  So we have just never had one in our house. Had a great blue heeler while the kids were growing up.  We live at a busy cross road , house is 30 ft from the road so we don't have a dog now.  Not going to have a dog if I have to keep it locked in a pen.

We always had good livestock dogs growing up but they came and went as they wanted around the house. It was just a really old farmhouse and we didn't think anything of it except on the occasion when one of them would go for a roll in the hog lot.

Two things stick with me, a border collie that would bar me from the gate when I was a toddler and the border collie that stayed in my lap for days I think when Mom died. [ I was 5 }

I prefer dogs over people most days, but I have had to restrain dogs for their own well being.

I love this.

yep The one that kept me out of hog lot was an old girl when I was born

The other one was probably a pup when I was born because we lost her when I was around 11 or 12

Poor Emma,  was playing frisbee and she wasent watching where she was going but watching the frisbee instead , took a shortcut under the back of the truck  and hit the trailer hitch. Sure hope the hair grows back. I gave her a Kolache to make her feel better. 1AE33338-FFA5-40E8-BB40-3728C46F9699.thumb.jpeg.5564e66624bec72aed0e543941925be3.jpeg

Years ago I had a German Shepherd that loved to chase a flashlight beam. He would chase that spot on the floor forever. One time I wasn't paying enough attention while he was paying too much, and I ran him into a metal trash can. When he got up, he looked at me like "who put that can there??????????"  Not the sharpest tool in the box, but he sure was a lot of fun to have around.

Nobody offers me anything when I bang a hitch 😀

But she should have some wound spray or salve on that if you haven't already done so

Kolaches have magical medicinal healing properties.

Healed many a booboo on me as a wee one.

I'm sure that is all she would have needed but don't hurt to throw your vet a bone once in awhile either😉

Our new family member got "repaired" today. He got sent home with a cone of shame but he shouldn't need it. They cautioned no licking but he can't reach his anymore than I could mine 😀

I’ve had a problem recently with a skunk or coon getting the food (handfull  of cat food in a bowl) out of a trap like that without tripping the pan. I’ve caught 5 this year, and the trap seems good, but last few tries I’ve been unsuccessful. Any tips? Thought about it tying food to the back wall so they have to fight for it

Wire the bait can in solid, set it with a hair trigger, put enough food in it so they stay awhile, some guys even dig a hole under the trap for the bait but I don’t. I have had several occasions where the bait was gone and no animal. Could be mice I guess. I did catch a picture of a coon so big that the trap door came down on his butt and he just backed out .

I think if your Going to tie bait to the back you would have to put the trap up against a wall or they will just trip the trap trying to dig it out from the outside. I have seen as many as four raccoons on the trail cam circling the trap trying to figure it out. They are fairly reluctant to go in so they must be really hungry.

Are you sure it isn't mice or packrats getting the cat food out?

Amazing what a trail cam aimed at a live trap will pick up.

I would post some pics but they are all home on my laptop.

Shoot, didn't see your post before I replied. Basically just repeated what you said🥺

I always cover my trap with feed sacks so the can only see in the entrance.
