Just had a lamb chop for dinner,97% chance it was imported. We buy a lamb and fatten and butch them ourselves some times. But my wife likes it and watches for sales generally from Albertsons  grocery store. Most of the time labeled as imported, but no always.

? All most un American/anti western/anti cowboy but, a good % of the early ranchers here ran 20 to a 60 ewes with there cows. When I was little my dad had only a handful of cows but helped a lot of the neighbors with there cows. So sometimes he was paid with good fat lamb he would bring home and butcher and cut up himself. But he would never have anything to do with eating what he called mutton, which to him was any ewe that had been around to have given birth  or maybe just being over 2 years old.

Remember being told in the old days that was a common practice. Sheep would eat rougher grasses the cattle wouldn't. Get better utilization of their range. True?

Dunno 'bout that, but at home my dad always told me that GOATS would eat anything.

Never heard of anyone running goats in numbers back in the day.

I do know of two people now who have them in numbers today. For a fee they will bring them to your place for natural weed control. An alternative to herbicides. Don't know any more about it than that though

My understanding is a goat will eat weeds and brush before grass but I'm talking above my pay grade.

Surely someone more knowledgeable can chime in and tell me if I'm in the vicinity of the truth or just full of goat marbles?

Ray.....we eat a lot of "sheep meat ".......but it is always "hogget "    ie.no more than two years old and usually a "wether " hogget.......(the crown jewels   having long since been removed....)...and it is always     off the farm , here.........And cooked   normally, roasted it is very good tucker........however , for the luckless folk who buy  from the super market, that can be a real   lottery...that's where the old cull ewes end up

When    blokes with whom I work with see my (lunch )  sandwiches  ...made by my own fair hand......they invariably suggest  that    "I stick with  my day job "......sigh  ...However fresh bread with cold hogget meat , pickle...an onion  perhaps.....maybe a tomato therein........that is something  to look forward to.......unlike most of my lunch creations........

We have my brothers dog this weekend Ellie or more often “Smellie” is pretty rowdy, Quigley (the liver springer) is none too thrilled about the competition for people attention, she would prefer to be the only dog in the world . My lab bailey is good with anything as long as she gets to be included and has a ball.

Son and DIL went to Deadwood for something or other (DIL calls it not working on the weekend, Son grumps but goes along with her) so watching their  Visla "Chase" this weekend. Just us boys as the wife is at an Am Legion convention in Kearney till Sunday.

Chase would wear out the Energizer bunny. Lives in town so really likes coming out here. Lots of room to run.

This is a rare shot of him not moving?

He also wears out Gus and Cash who aren't used to all the excitement?

One thing that has always amazed me about dogs is how they can go from sound asleep to dead run in about .2 seconds! Back before the c-pap it took me about two hours just to get the cobwebs out of my head. (Don't miss those days).

I am a bit worried about mine. He thinks he is tough he took a small bull moose across a stubble field over 40 rods before giving up this afternoon. If he is in the yard and a coyote is around and I don't know it he is apt to be a meal for a coyote.

My pup chases everything.  He wants to be make friends. He doesn't seem to know some would like to make him into lunch! I have to watch him every second when outside as I have cougars, bears and coyotes near. He was trying to make friends with a opossum last night.

We don't have bears yet and cougars are rare. There are hundreds about a 100 miles away.
