1586 Jeff
Sam is enjoying his “Thunder Bunny”. Fortunately for Thunder Bunny this will be the first stuffed animal to outlast Sam. Unfortunately for me my time with Sam is growing to a close.

It puts us in the situation too many times in our lives and for me, it gets harder each time. When they get to a certain age, they get a look in their eyes that I think is appreciation and thanks for being my friend. I have never had a dog that didn't give me more than I gave.
sandhiller
Cash my border collie will follow me through a raging blizzard to "help" feed cows. Which we are supposed to have tomorrow. Freezing rain forming icecicles on the trees right now. Gus the Weimeraner however will stick his nose out the door and say "see ya when ya get back"? 1

oleman
This dog is a cat. She was feral given to me at about 6 weeks old in 2004. She never was really tame. Once she was gone for 6 weeks, showed up at the back door lean and mean looking. An avid hunter she caught doves looking for food on the ground, baby rabbits and large rats were her specialty. She would bring them home to share with me. Last seen in 2017, I think the neighborhood coyotes finally got her.

I happen to like cats....and despite feeding them to almost obese levels......their natural instinct is to have a go at any luckless bird that ventures to close....... ...the number of cats, liberated up our fairly remote valley...by persons unknown.......is a constant reminder of selfish people.....so the now illegal, Marlin 39A, .22 rifle has to be used.....don't enjoy shooting cats, but the NZ indigenous bird life has never had to cater for predators in their DNA........so any cats that can be dispatched...are...... Oleman, we once had a large cat , who just arrived on our door...(rural area, of course !!).......we called him "horse".......not that original but that buggar would haul home full grown rabbits and hares.......but his speciality was catching eels....bringing through the back door "cat door" and depositing the luckless eel (s) in the shower ......this of course would create some consternation with visitors......who could unwittingly find a partially eaten eel in the shower...or worse......a fully intact eel.......partially alive.....One could hear the shriek from the living room !!! I have a picture of this cat......but can't locate at...... Mike
sandhiller
Hate to admit but if I'm in a yard or shop with other people and a dog walks up to me, he gets my full attention. Guess that says something about my people skills?

Guess that says something about my people skills? You and me both! Took one of my dogs to Sisters rodeo years ago. Theres a big campground there that's just mainly a big party. Me and Missy walked from campfire to campfire visiting. Guess who's name everyone remembered in the morning. That was many moons ago when I still had big dreams. What a sweet dog she was.

sandhiller
Sounds like Bailey was a real good dog. They always give way more than ask in return. He made an impact on all that knew him. Ruby Red
Christmas came early to our house, got a border collie, Tannie, a litter mate to our granddaughter Jenna's Kevin, still a bit timid but fitting into our place well. Gotta love a Border Collie, great companion. Carl

Each dog that I have had has given me much more than I was able to give them. My Sam is still hanging in there and being an old dog. I keep saying that each dog is the greatest. Then when I finally get past the grieving and get the next dog I cannot believe that it is so much better than its predecessor. I can tell you that even as old, arthritic, and short winded as Sam is I still REALLY enjoy his company!!
