Friend of mine works for southern states told me one time during a rough winter a lady called and wanted some hay my friend told her they didn't have any and didn't know when or if they could get any more The woman told her she needed to call the factory and get them to make more hay because people had anmials to feed

HOS...hours of service for over the road truck drivers that operate outside the 100 mile fly radius zone for the company or yourself (owner/operator) you drive for.  Basically makes a lot of runs that were done in the past next to or impossible to run these days b/c you can't fudge GPS....well you aren't suppose to anyway ?

Exemption for not having to log more than eight days out of a thirty day period lets me run paper logs (besides the fact that I haul livestock).  Basically the Elog just made better liars out of a bunch of hard working people.

yes, you guys get some exemptions for livestock.  There is an entire bible of exemptions and different rules for every type of hauling....wide load, logging, livestock, reefers, etc...

Log your five or six day week. TAKE YOUR LOG OUT OF THE TRUCK AT THE END OF THE WEEK! Next Monday when you start, write “Off Duty 12-16 through 12-23” on the first page. Then start logging your day. Use a loose leaf log book. You only need seven days of log with you. That’s how livestock haulers have done it for years. Will it pass a DOT audit? No. Will it pass if you get stopped out on the road?  Yes. If you get audited you will need a couple more names to use for the 22 days out of the 30 that you can’t log yourself. 

Disclaimer: I have never falsified a log book, but I can read the rules and figure out a way around. Like I said before, regulations make excellent liars out of hard working people. 

Edit: the above scenario could work for an owner-operator, but if you’re driving a company truck I guess your SOL.

GPS jammers have caused intermittent flagging of GPS approaches where highways run close to the runways. This guy was trying to hide from the boss and shut down the surface movement guidance at Newark airport.

When the weather is really down the tower folks can't actually see you. in the past and at smaller airports they rely on pilots telling them where they are. When taxiing at night in a snow storm sometimes it's easy to get lost. The  surface movement guidance and control system shows controllers exactly where everyone is. Pilots have wandered onto active runways thinking they're on a taxiway.

The equipment I'm flying now shows us in the cockpit exactly where we are which sure helps everywhere. Now my iPad shows me where I am when flying my Cessna which is really handy as the view isn't as good sitting down low.

You can just imagine what JFK was like with 3rd world airlines with 3rd world pilots with marginal English skills was like without it.

You forgot oilfield logging. totally different that OTR logging.

US DOT monitors Red Power for lawbreaking operators such as yourself. Better shape up or POOF u be gone.

I did say I haven’t falsified a log book..........but then a good gov’t agent might skip over that part

Had a DOT guy tell me a couple weeks ago “All the old-time bull haulers would tell me ‘You caught me today but I’m still money ahead because you don’t catch me every time!’ “.

I'm just curious, have you had any law enforcement ask to review your ELD? I got stopped the other night, was having trouble with my trailer lights and he read me the riot act about putting myself out of service the next town up the road. All he asked to see was my CDL. Not a word about logs, electronic or paper. He was a sheriff's deputy, haven't been stopped by a trooper or DOT since the mandate went into effect.

Must be the only one that does then.  According to my software none of the usual tracking suspects take much notice

I have had them check the elog. We used to have Peoplenet. They could enter a company code(i had to provide it) on their computer and bring up my logs. Now our logs are on an Ipad so we can bring them right in the chicken coup for the nosy buggers.

Loose leaf logs were good money makers.....
