Nelson Tractors

This advertisement calls the 35hp. model to be able to pull an 8 bottom plow....seems pretty impressive if it legit.  Other than that, does this seem to be another one of those tractors that was built during an era where everyone was "building" their own tractors from parts of all sorts of outside sources?

I see they were rigorously tested in the sandy plains of Arizona.....maybe where the 8 plow rating came from? 8-12's i bet....

It looks like they were pretty innovative having 4wd in probably 1920's. Probably suffered the same fate as a lot of tractor manufacturers too expensive and not reliable enough. I doubt very many survive today.

claims this is 1 of 2 ever made by Nelson.  Seemed like it was a bad idea from the start.

Four wheel drive does seem pretty inovative for its time tho. Would be neat to look it over in person and see how its built. Even more fun to drive it a bit.

i'm not arguing that...maybe it was just a bad idea for a boiler company to try to get into the tractor manufacturing game is all.

Well ya i was just thinking out loud. Wasnt trying argue your point either. Many reasons why it wouldnt have been a good idea at the time. Just saying would be neat to examine it more closely.

i agree 100%  Seems a big selling point they were trying to drive home was the strength and adjustable chain drive system.  I found another ad and it stated in the caption that by the time the advertisement hit the public, the company had already file for bankruptcy.  I think there were a million 'little guys' trying to hit the tractor market with the next big idea...but I think many relied more on hype and crazy ad. claims than actual customers and performance.  There was a company just across the river in Clinton, IA that kind of fell into this niche market.  I will have to try to dig up that info again.  I posted it in 'IH Tractors on a Montana Farm', just don't remember how long ago.
