This cool site came rolling in as I was leaving the fuel island....so I had to stop and get a closer look. The nice older gentleman was from down by Hannibal, MO and just picked up this freshly restored MTA from a gentleman in Montecello, IA. If I remember, I think the guy he bought it from worked out of the old IH dealership in Montecello. It was sure a nice tractor...and so was the 20 minute conversation I had with the old farmer. I believe I would chain it down differently though. I noticed the lack of protection of paint, but it is not mine and it was secure. In talking to him and while I was taking these pictures, he was running a 3rd chain....due to Iowas 3 chain law. I offered him a few rags to help keep chains off the paint. Some of the trip was under darkness, but I did get to snap a few interesting things...at least to me. 1. Cool copper dome of the county courthouse in Lancaster, WI. 2. Never seen a Hamms Beer sign outside a bar...this is is Beetown. 3. I find old barns painted up with sayings or old advertisements so cool. 4. I am not used to see these signs...I did 2 of them....with flashers....how does that work?! 5. Very cool retro gas station complete with a covered drive thru in Montecello, WI. Hamm's beer sign too. Nice looking SM-TA too! Reminds me of driving Dad's SM-TA home from repaint in Osco when I was about 8-9 yrs old. Dad paid an extra $5 and got the grill below the seam painted white. Did the same thing on the '39 H a few months later, did the '51 M that way few years later, I did the SH that way summer of '69. when I repainted all the sheetmetal, actually, I did all the wet sanding, bought all the paint, Dad sprayed everything. They put up a couple on coastal islands in Maine that are mostly inhabited in summer by out-of towners from Massachusetts, CT, NY, and NJ. On most of mine I have chain loops attached to each side of front bolster /rail on rear I tie on each side of drawbar or hitch. Four chains four binders. Bears are hungry out here .
