5488 drivetrain chatter

Recommended Posts

Once my 5488 is warmed up and after I've worked it for a while, I can hear what I would describe as gear or bearing chatter coming from somewhere in the trans/rear end at idle in neutral. It does it in both high and low side's and goes away above 1000 rpm. There is no noticeable noises while moving. I'm not too concerned about it, but just thought I would ask if anyone else experienced this?

This chatter originates in the PTO drive gears at the back. It is common to all 50 series and Magnums. It is just the nature of the beast and is not something to be concerned about normally.
