redneckchevy9
They seem like they are very handy to have a round and a lot more versatile than the zero turn that is all the rage these days. Anyone have one or ever ran one?
5488Duke
If memory serves correctly?? I think the people that originally made the Steiner machines--very similar to these units--sold their business. Then started another business making the Ventrac, or someone connected with the early Steiner business started making them...something like that. Either way the Steiners had a very good reputation as do the Ventracs. Very versatile, large front mount mowers etc and can get around real good on soft ground. Someone correct me if I don't have the story straight...Just know there is some connection between the two somehow.

mader656
I drove a Steiner gosh 16 years ago 4x4 lawn mower it would mow up anything. Relativly fast to turn pretty comfortable except when you turn a lever into your knee... All types of impliments available. Snow pushing sobs too. yellowrosefarm
We have one at work that is about 10 years old. It has required more repairs than any other piece of equipment we have had, except maybe an old Howard Price batwing mower. Last year it literally broke in half going down the street. I've put a half dozen axles in it that broke without warning, the hydro pump went bad earlier this spring causing it to stay in forward, nearly getting the operator killed, the transaxle casting was porus and finally got to leaking so bad we had to replace it a few years ago. Had to notch the frame to get one of the hyd filters off early on, many hoses, linkages, the whole front lift frame assembly, several pto clutches, a half dozen pto belts a year, wiring problems, overheating, exhaust falling off and more I've forgotten. And that's only the power unit, the implements are just as bad. We only use it for 2 things now, mowing storm water detention ponds and with a seeder aerator on the front. Plus they are like $40,000 new and 3-5000 each for the attachments. They sold a bunch of them around here and I've heard similar horror stories from others that have them. I use to have a Steiner liked it very well. Held up good for me but you had to watch what you was doing with it or you would have problems. Ventrac looks to be better built. My thoughts anyway. Ihcubguy
We looked into the possibility of one of these for our sewer plant at work. I looked at both and honestly thought that the new Steiner looked better than the Ventrac for our needs. Even though I think the new Steiner's are ugly looking things. I know of 2 different guys that use these for cleaning their chicken houses. One uses a Steiner and the other a Ventrac. Both like them a lot with very little problems.
