A guy here by home that we farm his ground has a bunch of Cockshutts and Coop tractors and other odd ball brands. I don't know if he has one of every model but he isn't missing it by much

My grandpa farms with all Allis Chalmers and I've been around them my whole life but none of them have the cool factor that a 66 series IH have but as far as usefulness the 6000 series and 8000 series have most all of them beat for the time period. We have a D21 but it's nicer to look at that it is to use, in my opinion.

If there was one cool tractor from IH of that time period it would be the V8s.  You can keep the 66s.  Allis Chalmers didn't have much of a presence around here for as wheeled tractors go.  Part of the problem was they didn't cater to western wheat farmers until the D21.  By that time IH, JD, and Case firmly had the market under their control and trying to crack it was just not going to happen with the few AC dealerships there were.  AC did alright with the D-21 around here but the 5020 far out sold them.  They did have the crawlers and they sold a number of them around here but Cat and IH kicked their butts sales wise.  I've heard both good and bad about the 7000 series and I've heard the 8000s were top notch and as good if not better then the rest of the competition .  I 'm just not a big fan of the 426 or at least in the high hp classes.  AC did down rate the engine from the 7080 to the 8070 and I have to assume it was to get them to hold up better.

not sure if I would say my favorite non IH tractor but the only non IH tractor left on our farm. I was always partial to the case 1070 we used to have dad didn't share the same feelings as me towards it and it left a farm back in 96

Maybe because its the only other brand I've spent much time on, but I always look forward to getting to run these during harvest.  Maybe that's just because I'm happy to have a somewhat quiet cab that hopefully has ac and maybe even a radio.

4430, 4440, 4450, and a 4630, all have their good points and bad points.

Then again,  we have used some magnums on the carts and I'd much rather run that, but a little variety never hurt.

Nice to see one that clean. Most of those in these parts look like a refugee from the Law of Gravity.

respect your opinion, but don't lump me in with the "rest of the ag world". I wouldn't have one of those POS in my field.

I'll join your club. Got a friend that works for a farmer with two of these. One 9620 and one other. According to my friend they are EXPENSIVE to keep running.

I collect any of them just happen to favor IH and my favorites are my IH's but I can think of a model from pretty much any manufacturer I would like to add to my collection. However, the other brands I currently own and really enjoy are Allis-Chalmers and Oliver. I would say my next favorite is Oliver, we have an old style 88 that has been in our family for generations that I grew up running so Oliver is a bit sentimental to me and I am working on a 70. As much as I love all the letter series Farmalls we have and my F-20 which was always my dream tractor, I was always surprised Oliver didn't outsell all the competition in the 1930s to 1940s. I think part of it was a higher selling price but with the 6 cylinder engines and the first to offer true live pto they were well ahead of the competition at several different points. Like I say I absolutely love my F-20 but comparing the starting and operating experience of a hand crank F-20 with manual timing adjustment and manually oiled valves with that of the Oliver 70 in the late 1930's is a pretty stark comparison as well as even comparing the M to the 88. I also enjoy my Allis-Chalmers WD. Another great tractor that I still use.

this thread is too good to die yet so...……. I went to buy some plow shares off a guy on Kijiji on this past Good Friday and it turned out I knew him from the dealership 35 years ago. We visited a while and then he showed me his John Deere collection . in the second shed there sat this beauty G1000 and it came home with me?? I got him parked in the shade until I can make room in my coverall. Prolly won't keep him forever since I got one of r pope's 806s as well this spring

Our neighbors had on back in early 70s. Was a cool looking tractor & big horse in the area at the time.

G1000 just looks like it's all motor.

Nice find.   We had a U302 on the farm growing up.  It was a tricycle gear,  and the over under was out on the under side I think.   I liked using it and if it had been a wide front and diesel I would of considered keeping it.

I just don't want to pour fuel through one. Or bounce my head off the back glass.
