Where to buy and sell these days??????

Recommended Posts

So a little background, I bought most of my stuff on eBAY and Craigslist over the years but it seems that eBAY is now a parts distributor (buy it now) rather than an auction place. I also see the trend over the past few years where the availability and quantity of parts on ebay are diminishing. they cant all be bought up and hoarded??? I expect prices to keep climbing as well but some of the items are just plain ridiculous!

so I was wondering if there was a new place where these items have gone to? anyone have any recommendations on places or how to search better? the parts and machines can be getting that rare that quickly so I am thinking people have just gravitated towards other websites or avenues to sell/buy.

even with craigslists - I found that you have to manually look at each different locations (state, city, area etc) cause a general search doesnt return anything.

maybe I am wrong or getting old and in the way.....

I have even just searched google and yahoo looking for items but it seems they all lead back to the same storefronts that are on eBAY or business websites.

just wondering.......

Facebook Groups and Facebook Marketplace are another avenue for selling online. I've only sold a couple of things using it but I got the sale made quickly.

EBAY and paypal had their hands too deep in the cookie jar and both took out a fee. On top of that ebay is for buyers not sellers. You get a pissy seller they can make a boohoo claim and your out of the part and $.

Tractor shed is free and list stuff but its a 1 pic on place.

Everyone has a love hate relationship with Craigslist. Too many scammers ran scared off the older crowd for posting their cache of hoarded parts. You can go to search settings and selected more cities to include in searches.

Facebook parts are for sellers. Stuff goes fast and brings big $ on the auction groups.

Red Power needed an online classifieds section years ago but its not what the owners wanted. By the time red power comes out the good stuff is long gone. Im not a fan of waiting 2 months to sell or buy something.

I guess im loosing my technical prowess...

I tried listing in craigslist (here https://albany.craigslist.org/grd/d/ihc-international-harvester/6591403523.html) and all i get for that and my other posts on IH parts is spam.... ugh!

I did get the "see other items" going on craigslist.

I also tried listing in facebook on "The IH Trader! International Harvester Classifieds" and I got one response but i cant seem to find the add.

Great topic!  Ebay was ruined by greed of the owners.  Sucks because 10-15 years ago it was a great place to sell things.  I've only bought there in the last several years.

Craigslist still works, but it has seen a decline in traffic since facebook started a market place.   I would think one of these days it will cost to sell on facebook too. You know the owners of that company will want part of that money being traded about.

If I have something to sell I now post to CL and to FB, and forget about Ebay.

I have had great luck selling on ebay. The key to it is to play off all the greedy sellers, offering the same part for significantly less. Same goes on Craigslist. You know those guys are shooting for the moon with their prices. Offer the same or better for less money, and you will have no problem selling.

The reason you don't see any good deals is, all the good deals sold quickly. It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Searching once a day if you're buying does not cut it. You either need to search multiple times a day or set up alerts when things come up for sale that you're looking for.

Craigslist is only good for large ticket items. Things like tractor parts have such a limited market and since you're only supposed to advertise in your immediate area, you really don't have a good chance of selling. Trying to advertise to multiple Craigslists usually ends up in your ads getting deleted, as it is considered spamming and is against the rules.

ours has been taken over by scammers and BS dealers   10-50 ads EACH and EVERY day, cant find a good one for all the over priced ^$^&*

new jersey and phoenix ads every day

local trailer dealer started out in %$%^ hole last year , has  over $500K in inventory now  10-12  CL ads EVERY !! day,  IMHO nothing but   %^$

bto tractor dealer    one was crying poverty STEALING equipment $500-1500 for field ready tractors   then flaming anyone that would listen  why they would not resell for $8-12K before leaving his trailer, buy it today or will be scrapped!!.

now is a BTO scrapper   pays $500 for running tractor and pieces EVERY one..nothing under $100 by the piece  most are $5-800 piece  and selling !!!  $150 gas tank $400 tin etc...

Must be a lot of complete fools living in your area. Around here everyone thinks their $800 M is worth $3000, their $5000 986 is worth $15000, and if you try to make a firm fair offer, they run you off on the business end of a 12ga., sometimes literally. A tractor jockey may mysteriously "disappear" under such circumstances, I'd imagine. These people get pretty hot, "The price is the price, take it or leave it."
