My 185 puma has almost 5000 hrs on it, mostly TMR work. Tonight the PTO TIMED OUT. No error code.  Shut tractor off and was able to get pto working again, but it did it twice more before I got done. Going to switch tractors tomorrow but was wondering what the issue might be. Thanks for any help. Leo.

I had a McCormick mc102 ( basically a 5240 with POS Perkins) the alternator messed up the pto , something about rpms not matching , changed alternator reset pto and I was good to go.

the magnums have the same type of problem.  If the alternator isn't putting out 9.8 amps the  pto won't work.

I would think you meant volts

I was talking to a coworker about this today as I recall him having a similar problem on a Puma a couple years ago. He suggested the PTO solenoid may be having a mechanical problem causing this. The "PTO timed out" message is more or less the computer saying that everything is working properly, as far as all the electronics are concerned, with trying to make the PTO operate. The problem is more than likely mechanical in nature. That would explain no fault code, as well as why restarting it would cause it to work again. It could be a lot of other things, but that is where I would start with.
